I know this is impossible for us discuss in this current moment but... People want to do interesting, thoughtful, creative, day to day work. They want to care for each other, and feel like they are contributing to something bigger.
It should be where we start when we think about our communities.

There’s a gulf between choosing to be intentionally uninformed about the state of the world and choosing to be judicious in consuming traumatic details given the state of the world. The first stems from & leads to apathy. The second does not.

I was talking about this with my 8yo, who seemingly understands better than the CEO. It’s not just that they’ve caved quickly, it’s that each time it’s shown a betrayal of the values they’d made their brand identity - which shows they have no values at all. Better to not pretend in the first place!
had a death in the family and was almost completely off the internet for a few days & my observation is that there is too much happening too fast such that basic facts abt the world are difficult to ascertain unless you are mainlining info all the time & doing that seems to drive people insane

Now my 8yo’s understanding of Calvinism is pretty much like how she understands any other religion: some people believe this. The end.

Jesus’s statement “Whoever is not with me is against me” (Matthew 12:30, Luke 11:23) is incredibly useful for authoritarian Christians in vilifying anyone who disagrees with their interpretation of Christianity, and naturally, their preferred politics.
This is it. This is a terrifyingly standard idea in many evangelical churches. Anyone who isn’t in lockstep with “us”/God is against us/God, so anyone who differs politically or religiously is working in league with or being guided by the actual devil.
Same exact reason why most Christian media doesn’t crossover into being real art.
Just have to say I appreciate your consistent reminders that being clear-eyed isn’t the same as being pessimistic at every turn.
