"I absolutely think I’m qualified for the job," [the Noem aide in question] said last year when questioned about her lack of credentials. "Because at the end of the day, what really makes anybody qualified for any job?"

She's now running for Congress.

A knock on the window and a glimpse of America’s surveillance future β€œThis is taking a big and very scary step toward a kind of totalitarian checkpoint society,” a privacy advocate warns in a special France 24–Mother Jones report.

DHS quietly removed a Biden-era policy from its website that outlined oversight & privacy safeguards for facial recognition.

Now, they’re using Mobile Fortify, an app that allows officers to photograph a person’s face and immediately query DHS databases for matches on anyone they snap a picture of.

Deforestation is no longer inevitableβ€”

In the past, forests around the world were cut down on a massive scale. We lost some of the world’s richest ecosystems.

In recent decades, the picture has become more complex. Deforestation has not ended, but it is no longer happening everywhere.
