That's very kind. We were friends at an awkward stage of life. I don't think I carried myself in a way I can be proud of. You will always be the person I went to my first gig with, who got me into the Manics and opened my mind to so many different things. I'm grateful for the time we had.

@benstanley.eu I know we haven't stayed particularly close since school but I still get a rush of something like pride or happiness for you when I'm reading and see things like this. Well done on everything you've achieved so far.

AI should revolutionise healthcare. There are some amazing things people are doing but good old fashioned inertia and regulatory constraint will hamper it being used at scale for a while.

The threat is serious. He doesn’t expect to make Canada the 51st state in his lifetime, but he'll use that goal to push the border north. He’ll also deploy the US military into Mexico, undermining its sovereignty.

He's been ambiguous and talked about "one way or another" which leaves the threat of military annexation open. He knows what he's doing.

And the cover of anti terrorism legislation to enact against the cartels.

It would reduce support for the war if people felt it was ultimately unwinnable in the face of US and Russian pressure. I notice Merz didn't rule out returning to Russian gas.

I'll be amazed if Badenoch is still there for the GE. Side effect of Tory electoral disaster though is lack of obvious replacement.

The twist of his death and the family trip is both sad and a chef's kiss at the same time.

I love Colman but you want someone like Tony Soprano's sister to play the daughter.

I miss commuting. It represents the separation between work and home. I really struggle going from being Work David to David the husband and father in the time it takes me to descend the stairs.

Same. My job is 99% WFH and I don't like that element but I have to accept that it makes drop off and pick up and looking after the dog easier.

However I'm also aware of research which suggests I'm less likely to get pay rises and promotion as a WFH'er.

I wonder how much it matters at this stage of the cycle?

The most important thing from the Tory POV is getting Kemi established and I think it would be fair to say that is a work in progress at the moment.

Crazy that they're prepared to spend so much money to pretend they care about protecting school children from armed intruders.

I was struck by the argument from Ed Balls that Musk is effectively editorialising on X now, like a Beaverbrook, North or Murdoch and he should be regulated as such in the UK.

@jamesbarr.bsky.social hi James, I'm just towards the end of your Line in the Sand which I've found absolutely fascinating. You mention around 250 killed at Deir Yassin. Some writers have recently claimed a lower number but trusting sources in this area is tricky and so was curious about your view?
