Yeah, I’m in a similar boat with nearly 40 years of gaming under my belt. I tried to distill this down by consoles, so I’ve got a very clear demarcation of TRS-80, Genesis, PC, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 4.

That’s kind of surprising. I always assumed the split between the games was essentially 2D and 3D, with everything essentially mechanically uniform across the series.
I’d like to know more about the reasoning for three different Zelda games (I’ve only played the SNES one and the GameBoy one, so I’m not really familiar with the series directly).
Not a listing of my favourites, but the 9 games most important to my personal taste (although there’s definite overlap). Yakuza, Gradius, Master of Orion 2: Battle at Antares, and XCOM 2 all just barely missed the cutoff
