If there is one thing I can be proud of, itβs my work in starting this global initiative - and for the sixth year running, letβs piss off a lot of people in and out of STEM just by being our unapologetic selves. #queerinstem

This one is stunning so I can only imagine The One is perfect! Super excited for you :)
(Just realized that I haven't advertized the Astronomy and Astrophysics Outlist on this platform.)
If you are an LGBTQ+ π³οΈβπ astronomers/astrophysicists (or an ally) and are comfortable of being out, you can join the Astro Outlist to help increase LGBTQ+ visibility and connect with local community!
Screenshot from the app, datacamp which says "you've extended your streak! Learners who have a week-long streak are 18x more likely to complete a track." With a lightening bolt next to the number 14. The days of the week are also shown with circle indicators, with monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday circles coloured in.
I've been using datacamp to improve some of my data science skills, and I'm super proud of myself for my 14-day streak!
My original intention for blue sky was to keep it 100% astronomy, but I'm not really sure what my (long term) future in astronomy looks like so I don't think I'm going to be that strict.
Also I keep forgetting blue sky exists so hello :)
My to-do list is long. I am sleepy. Happy Monday π
My 1st publication in the Open Journal of Astrophysics: a genuinely collaborative effort between two previously rival teams to conduct a joint cosmic shear analysis of the Dark Energy Survey and Kilo-Degree Survey. ππ©πΌβπ¬

Since we're up late, have you checked out episode 3 of Explore Exoplanets: The Discoverers? This time I interview one of my favourite people and fabulous JPL exoplanet scientist Jenn Burt! Please watch (and share!) and let me know what you think!!!
Hubble video of a shock wave slamming through gas blasting out from a supernova. Bonus: You can actually see stars *physically move* due to their orbital motion around the center of the galaxy!

Excited to share the 1st direct evidence of quartz clouds in the atmosphere of a transiting #exoplanet! With #JWST MIRI we found nanoparticles of quartz, SiO2, causing a spike in the planet's spectrum at 8.6 micron unveiling the Oxygen locked in the clouds

Cosmic rays and the mirrors of JWST π Episode 5 of the stardust series, βBerylliumβ, is now available! youtu.be/8a5K1gPAqRE?...
As I so eloquently wrote in my article about this JWST image of the Orion Nebula:
HOLY ^$%&@$%#($)()^&!!!!

I was aiming for a tree. Sort of. But I can see this!
Top down view of a cappuccino/latte in a stainless steel travel cup. A hand is holding it and a thumb with black bail varnish is visible. The froth on the coffee almost looks like a tree with 5 branches.
I've got a lot of work to do if I'm ever going to quit my postdoc and open a coffee shop π€‘
Doom :) (I mean play the game, but I also always have this sort of quiet, what am I doing with my life period after submitting something big)
But fr, congratulations! Try to relax and have some fun :)
1 thesis revision point. 5 hours of doom to recover. You'll be free soon :)
EUCLID test images just dropped. Data looks amazing already. Fun science ahead!
Look at that 6-spike PSF!
I do not enjoy LabVIEW. I can not use LabVIEW. And yet, here I am, trying to connect up my silly little temperature monitors to LabVIEW. Send help and maybe snacks.

Cosmos the grey tortoiseshell siamese cat, with a dark grey face and bright blue eyes. She is in a loaf position on a pink blanket on the sofa and is mostly looking at the camera.
Here is Cosmos! An older photo, but she does look very cute in it :)
Good luck! :)
Intro post. I'm Dr Amber Hornsby, a postdoc at Manchester who is working on the instrument side of SO:UK π I'm also the editor of the AstroNews section of Popular Astronomy, and spend way too much of my free time gaming. When in Cali, I adopted a very cute cat called Cosmos :)
