Idea: policies that do good things instead of bad things
Our team is now a WHO Collaborating Centre for the Promotion of Healthy & Sustainable Diets. Which is pretty cool (well, I think it is anyway).
I've got a PhD studentship being advertised on 'Who is shaping healthy and sustainable policies in UK cities?' Stipend + funded UK home fees + training and conference budget. Please share with anyone you think would be interested, or get in touch with me directly!

Exciting news! The @who.int has designated our Sustainable Healthy Food Group a WHO Collaborating Centre for the Promotion of Healthy & Sustainable Diets π
It'll be led by @jessicarenzella.bsky.social & Prof Mike Rayner from @oxpop.bsky.social, working closely with @petescarbs.bsky.social.
Youβre an artist.
Annual UK retail sales for ALL milkshakes (most of which don't have enough sugar to be included in new sugar tax): 174 million L.
Annual UK retail sales of Red Bull, Coca-Cola and Monster (high sugar, gov considered raising tax levels but didn't): 935 million L.
The Drake meme. A man in an orange puffer jacket looks shocked and turns his head away in the top picture. The same man in the bottom picture points with a smile on his face. Caption on the top picture is "Coca-Cola, Monster, Red Bull". Caption on the bottom picture is "Yop"

New @jessicarenzella.bsky.social! Workshops w/Newham residents to identify ways to improve diets ββ¦although the implementation of interventions in different areas may require tailoring, the focus of interventions to tackle the determinants of unhealthy diets could be similar across neighbourhoods.β
New study led by @jessicarenzella.bsky.social that used online Group Model Building workshops with Newham residents to map areas for action to create healthier diets

Another new Research Associate post available working on our new UKRI research hub! This post is at Strathclyde with the excellent @profkatsmith.bsky.social and @e-c-hill.bsky.social
Copy of paragraph 97 from the national planning policy framework. It reads: Local planning authorities should refuse applications for hot food takeaways and fast food outlets: a) within walking distance of schools and other places where children and young people congregate, unless the location is within a designated town centre; or b) in locations where there is evidence that a concentration of such uses is having an adverse impact on local health, pollution or anti-social-behaviour
Out just now, this is now explicit guidance in the National Planning Policy Framework!
This will be a huge help for councils wanting to create healthy places, reducing the scope for costly legal challenges from fast food companies. #HealthyPlaceShaping
