This session will be hybrid and ‘follow-along’, and cover Python and R, as well as more language agnostic solutions
This session will provide you with an overview of different ways to make your code reproducible and then focus on virtual environments as a specific tool for computational reproducibility
Ensuring that others are able to take your code, run it, and are able to produce the same (or equivalent) results is one of the key tenets of FAIR and reproducible research software
The next Research Coding Course session is all about Reproducible computational environments 🧑💻
Wed 18 March, 1-3pm, in-person or online

Champions for diamond open access publishing may emerge from a wider, academic-led open research advocacy network. @ukrepro.bsky.social has a great primer on this topic (osf.io/x8j9q/files/...), and many institutions have established networks, including at York (uoy.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/...)
N8 Statement on Sustainable Scholarly Publishing is an important milestone in bringing different universities together to agree that scholarly publishing models must deliver value for money & to encourage publishers to move towards fairly priced, open access & value-added publishing #copimconference
Sarah Thompson from @uoylibrary.bsky.social sharing how York now applies its values-based collections criteria to *all* their activity, not just open access 👏 Greater transparency helps not just with their dealings with publishers but also with their academics… #copimconference
@york.ac.uk researchers: the University needs to know about your archived datasets, even where your dataset is in an external data repository 📊
When you deposit dataset(s), email lib-open-research@york.ac.uk and the Open Research Team will create a dataset record in PURE for you

Screenshot: Throughout this guide I’ve quoted various York academics, and it seems appropriate to start with this advice from Dr Richard Carter (School of ACT): Don’t be afraid of starting out again. If you have a sizeable following on Twitter-X, the prospect of shifting to a significantly smaller audience on BlueSky might appear very discouraging. Nevertheless… rebuilding on a fresher, far less toxic platform offers us a chance to reconnect with the core audience of professionals that we always intended to reach and be in dialogue with. Here, then, are ten top tips for those ready to rebuild.
And while we're on, many of the people in the Uni of York Starter Pack contributed to our Researcher's Guide to Bluesky, which you can read here:
