I enjoyed two things particularly:
1. the book remembers to replace cbij as a subject in an scholarly context, showing how the phenomenon 7/8
networks were established or groundbreaking investigations got published, painting a clear picture of the functioning of cross-border projects.
Noted, the book often gives space to larger collabs or well-known stories, but it does acknowledge 6/8
as it can the experienced journo, as the step-by-step approach can easily function as a checklist making one aware of both the necessary steps to take and the steps that escaped the attention along the way.
I love that the book uses examples of how certain organisations and 5/8
from comprehensive literature review and several interviews with prominent names in the field, creating a lovely balance between a textbook's academic tradition and a journalist's lively, observant style. CBJC can benefit students and emerging journos interested in cbij 4/8
collaborations, and taking the reader through different steps and stages of investigations with/in international teams of journalists. Hence it draws a realistic yet optimistic picture.
The book benefits not only from Alfter's own extensive experience and knowledge but also 3/8
reading, which I began hoping it'd make me a better contact for my network and a more equipped lecturer for a seminar I'll teach soon.
CBCJ is a textbook putting transnational collaboration in journalism in historical context, drawing on the benefits and pitfalls of such 2/8
