Loved every minute of it! I set up a painting space and it's where I spend most of my days now.
Painting of various animals, they are in profile, facing right. Included in this panel: Snapping turtle, garter snake, batfish, muskellunge, salamander, giant octopus, iguana, frog, kingfisher, cardinal, wood duck, kestrel, waxwing and crow.
In this image there is a group of birds and mammals in profile, facing right. Great blue heron, Saw-whet owl, giraffe, kangaroo, mountain lion, chipmunk, black bear, pronghorn, lemur and rhinoceros.
Remember, biodiversity is critical to all species on our planet, including us. If you can, spend some time outside and appreciate all of the amazing sights, sounds and smells in nature. #worldwildlifeday
'Origin' is a visual exploration of biodiversity. Acrylic on panel, 96" x 48".
Earlier this week it was monocot
Framed artwork against a blank background. Within the frame is a cube-shape, and within that six-sided shape are three panels. Each panel contains maps from different sources. One is nautical, one is topographic, and one shows altitude around the Great Lakes.
One of my small framed works, part of a series called 'Planetary'. Working with found materials, like the plywood background, topographical maps, and even the teakwood used for the frame proved to be inspirational. Sometimes it's a matter of just using what's at hand.

"This was the close of an expedition that I feel may never be quite matched in the annals of paleontology. It will go down as one of the great expeditions." βSereno on the finding of S. mirabilis

A six-sided frame on a white background. The frame is dark wood. Within the frame is a series of cubes made up of old maps and images from atlases. There are stars, the surface of the moon, deep ocean bed and deep sea creatures.

'Celestial No. 3', 12" x 10", framed with black walnut
Once I started creating these collages from old maps and atlases, I couldn't stop. Then I needed to make six-sided frames for them. Art takes you in unexpected directions, and I love it.

Pugnacious, acrylic on salvaged plywood
There is a series of cube shapes forming a pattern in this image. The cube shapes are made with cut-up pieces of maps including lakes, rivers and terrain. Within the pattern is the silhouette of a person paddling a canoe.
There's nothing like a canoe trip. Going from 'am I going to make it through this' to 'best thing ever' when you do. Lucky to have done multiple treks through Temagami and Algonquin. Nothing more important than a reliable map to get you through, and a few are included in this collage.
QRP with your skull art.
Dreaming of warmer weather & planning spring cycling trips. Cycling gives focus, a sense of freedom and fun with a bit of adventure mixed in. I've gone from mountain biking to road cycling to gravel riding. Fortunate to live in an area with so many options!

Winter sports: Cross Country Skiing
Grew up skiing & still get out in sunny winter weather. X-Country skiing is complicated but you set your own pace and I like to limit climbs and descents. Huge respect for the conditioning & technical skills of everyone competing in the Olympics.

'Explorers' is a series of vintage map collage on panel, with a subject near and dear to my heart. If you've spent time camping, swimming, cycling, skiing or getting outside for fresh air, you'll agree. Hand-built black walnut frames, too!
