This is true but I think it's important to clarify: we still know how to produce knowledge. Science, journalism, etc. still basically work, if done well. The crisis is that people don't trust those institutions any more. I'd characterize it as a social-trust problem.

One thing I feel ought to be discussed more is the fact that basically all rural and suburban places in the US are subsidized by cities. They resent cities. They insult cities. They elect politicians who abuse cities. But none of them could survive without cities.

I have no way of confirming this, but it tracks with the under appreciated moment of Christian nationalism we are living through.

The Corporations Quietly Backing ICE
Whatβs one way we can rein in ICE?We can start by boycotting ICEβs corporate collaborators that are profiting from the a
AT&T. Amazon. Dell. Verizon
These are just a few of the corporations aiding the Trump-ICE deportation machine.
Itβs time to boycott them. https://youtu.be/8FoX_0YxyIM?si=c60Ga047qMVLx-D3

When Trump tells the CNN journalist that they're "fake news" at his conference after the Supreme Court ruling on tariffs, why don't they shout back that he's a fake president. What have they got to lose?

This, unfortunately, is not understood by most people fighting fascism. It was super important not to let them get ahold of the federal administration, because itβs close to game over. Iβm dismayed at all the βbut Gazaβ voting that happened in the last election.

Thinking about lying
Climate denial taught our leaders shamelessness
The GOP learned to lie--shamelessly and obviously--from three decades of climate denial.

At least for the presidency, itβs not about what you identify as, itβs about choosing between two viable organizations. Until 3rd parties take a hold in congress voting for them for the presidency is not only only a spoiler, itβs also a setup for a failed administration.

THOUSANDS of men and women have died for this country because they were told they were DEFENDING DEMOCRACY.
The GOP members of congress will not even risk their jobs to save our country. Think about that. They risk nothing more than have to find another job after the next election.

Seems to me that ICE agents threading arrest to people following and watching them is a false equivalence when what those people are witnessing is those agents breaking windows and dragging people out of cars

A lot of people avoid politics because itβs overwhelming and they donβt want to be hopelessly depressed. So they check out and then check back in when itβs time for a presidential election. This is how we got to where we are now. We wonβt get out of it until this changes.
