The fertility fallacy: Five things you didn’t know about global fertility rates Many people ask: "Do you want children?" But few are asking: β€œDo you feel able to have children?” Let @β€ŒUNFPAβ€”the @un sexual and reproductive health agencyβ€”reveal how #TheRealFertilityCrisis is a stor...

Population panics are not new. Before, we had too many births; now we have too few. But the identified source of the problem is always women’s reproductive labor. Women are doing something wrong – having too few or too many – and their behavior needs to be managed for some β€œoptimal” outcome. 5/

Anger, despair, and defiance from a voice within the US federal research system People around the world are watching with disbelief as the new US government closes down its aid programme, withdraws from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Paris agreement on climate change...

"Removing these demographic data that track populations at risk will mean that [we] no longer have evidence for decision making or resource allocation for those who need healthcare the most. This is digital genocide: populations of vulnerable people are being deleted." doi.org/10.1136/bmj....

Four women in front of the APA banner and wearing conference lanyards in Kathmandu, Nepal. Happy to be working together!

Four women in front of the APA banner and wearing conference lanyards in Kathmandu, Nepal. Happy to be working together!

The menstrual justice team at APA who presented three oral presentations and two posters. I'm so lucky to have every one of these amazing women working with me!

Thank you Asian Population Association for a wonderful conference and thank you to all the brilliant people I spoke to. #APA24

Quick PSA... Don't report the absolute number to compare prevalence between populations.

Just because more people experience x in place y, does not necessarily mean there is a problem compared to elsewhere.

Find an appropriate denominator and use it!

(Based on genuine talks I've seen at APA)

Kathmandu and Asian Population Association here I come.
Thanks to Storm Bert for cutting the power and cancelling all the trains, but I'm on a coach and going to (just about) make my flight 🀞.
If anyone else is going say hi! It's my first time at APA since 2015! #APA2024 #Kathmandu #Demography

I ended up using the colour picker and a photo of real blood to get it *just* right πŸ˜‚. I hope you manage to fit the all important graph in!

Somebody needs to save me from myself as I redesign the colour scheme for my Asian Population Association poster for the millionth time. Is the colour of blood more maroon or burgundy? (And why does this bother me so much?)
Also, come see my talk and poster next week, both about menstruation🩸#APA24

Well this is nice - my feed is entirely relaxing landscape photos and people being excited about other demographers joining bluesky. Much more pleasant than X or LinkedIn.
