Evolution Keeps Reinventing The Appendix. Here's Why It May Be Important. Most people know only two things about the appendix: You don't need it – and if it bursts, you need surgery fast.

Really interesting new findings about the human appendix, an organ which most people know very little.

Never is the wall of separation between governance and operations more porous than when you ask elected officials for input on official cultural symbols.

Honestly, I'm just amazed we got through this without having to deal with a petition to put "Fuck Trudeau" somewhere on there.

Yes, hello, is that God? Yeah, hi. I have a complaint. You gave me this brain that’s designed for finding berries and avoiding lions and now people are β€˜just circling back’ to see if we can β€˜move the needle’ on β€˜key initiatives’? NONE of those things are berries.

I don't think the average person has any idea of the degree to which unpaid internships ensure that those from society's upper crust maintain outsized influence over cultural institutions and by extension, the public discourse.

At the store doing the weekly grocery shop, next in line at checkout, when what appeared to be a fairly enthusiastic Disney Adult saddled up behind me with only three items. Not only did I not ridicule this person, but I let them go in front of me.

You’re welcome, Universe.

So Philip Glass just joined TikTok. He only has like 4 posts and they’re simply him in what I assume is his living room playing the piano. First comment on one I saw was β€œyour piano is too close to the fireplace, you’ll dry it out” and if that’s not the internet in a nutshell I don’t know what is.

Making more surgeries available closer to home Partnership between B.C., Alberta ensures better access to health care

Good news. We’ve been lobbying the provincial government for this for sometime. As a rural border community, a one hour straight shot to Grand Prairie is a lot easier in the winter than four hours through the pine pass, especially for seniors or those with compromising health issues.

My most generous interpretation is he's keeping his powder dry for the fights where he can have an impact. My least generous one is that he's an amoral technocrat that sees opportunity in the destabilization of other petro-states because it makes Canada that much more attractive for investment.

If you were to draw a Venn Diagram of people who think they would flourish in a post-apocalyptic hellscape and those who melted down at the prospect of having to wear a mask while grocery shopping during the pandemic, you would have a perfect circle. Self-awareness is not one of their strengths.

We can add "Cyborg Propaganda" to my growing list of new dystopian terms.

People whose goal is to win elections will rationalize its use. People whose goal is to live in a healthy, functioning democracy should be horrified by the bad faith, AI enabled gamification of political discourse.

Amongst all the other horrors of last week, the first time I read the phrase β€œTumbler Ridge Massacre” in the news I got queasy at the thought that that would be people’s only frame of reference for a place I go 8 or so times a year to hike and camp with my family.
