Placed an order. Large letter. Sent first class. Royal Mail. On Feb 24th. It's *just* arrived! This evening. In a non-Royal Mail van. Guessing things are so bad at our local depots they're having to outsource deliveries at this point?
2 panel comic Panel 1 is titled βClient Feedback (2012) Red Guy sits at his desk typing on his laptop. There is a bubble on the right hand side of the panel showing his screen. A small text panel says βand theβ. There is an arrow pointing to the bottom of the words with a correction box that reads: βText is slightly misaligned. Please fixβ Panel 2 is titled βClient feedback (2026) Red Guy is slouched on chair typing into his phone. His phone screen shows a panel of text that is complete gibberish. This time the correction reads βnot alphabet but who give a fuckβ

And if you find yourself thinking, 'Oh, but I don't have the time!' then I say to you, change your post so it works without the image or wait until later when you do have the time. Others suggest trying voice to text to transcribe your alt-text, as it can be quicker and then you can just edit it.
@a11yawareness.bsky.social has some really great explainers on how to use alt-text if you aren't sure where to start.
You can find it by going to settings - accessibility settings and then clicking 'require alt text before posting'. Once enabled, if you add an image, it will remind you if you haven't added the alt-text before trying to post it.

Yes, it should accurately describe the image. Provided in includes the basic necessary details, I'll share it. But not if it's been used to expand on the post limit, share references, be 'artistic' (e.g. a painting of a night sky and the alt-text is like: 'shone so bright'), or otherwise unhelpful.
I posted that because now I can pin it and then reply with a link to that post, under every cool artwork post I want to share that doesn't have alt-text. To let people know... I would have shared this.
I'm so disappointed when I see really cool artwork in a post and go to share it l, only to realise it doesn't have alt-text. Because then I don't share it. And I want to share cool art with people. Please add alt-text to any images you post. You can even enable in-app reminders to help you remember.
If you do something worthwhile that requires you to talk to people, and maybe convince them of something, sometimes, this workshop next week is very supportive and effective. Also fun.

they look so soft (and yet they'll be the most hardcore rats when they grow up, helping humans to more safely identify and then diffuse bombs/landmines)
The Poet Laureate of the UK is famous for his translation of St Gawain and the Green Knight, and Kym once got up on stage, looked him straight in the eye, and then performed this.
Unsurprisingly enough, every time they've encountered each other since, he's remembered them.
Do some people think that even if you have a sense of visual imagery you're meant to be able to just *picture things in your mind and then draw them perfectly*? Because that is also a wild assumption.
FFS indeed, where's that article about Glen Keane when you need it (signed someone with complete aphantasia who is also an artist, including illustration)

The Museum of Scotland using small children in size comparison info panels is absolutely sending me.
There used to be an old sign by the path, warning passers-by of the local sleeping willow, which would trap the unwary with fatigue, engulf them while they slept, and release them a hundred years later.
There was a new sign:
"This sleeping willow is full."
And a map of other locations to try.
panels of birchbark with embroidered images of strawberries and people gathering them
Some 19th-century Mi'gmaw embroidery, done on birchbark with moosehair. It depicts strawberries, and women dressed in their fancy ceremonial dress gathering strawberries (the fruit is medicine associated with women, renewal, and the heart).

And guess who gets to decide who is White?
They're really just saying all the racist parts out loud now, huh. Making racism proposed official policy.
This place is getting much worse for alt-text recently! Include it for your own images and don't repost images that don't have it (except to add alt text yourself if you feel it's important to share it anyway).
I've been unemployed for a few months. I now set myself pretend jobs to prevent the rot setting in. My son thinks this guy is funny, which is a good enough excuse to make something. Any requests?
"Foreign-born Citizens" are actually just called citizens.
"Foreign-born voters" are just called voters
"non-citizen voters" (yes, this is a thing here in π¬π§) are just voters.
