3 years, 9 months post-Covid, all my bio-markers—brain waves, eye movements, inflammation bloodwork, HRV—are finally back within normal ranges.🎉 Still working past needing a daily power nap, but then again naps kind of rule.

Content Machines: Reading and Writing in the Platform Era

y'all !!!!

I love that the blurbs are basically like, "listen, she is never not telling you about some bleak shit" 😍❤️‍🔥 (thank you @aarthivadde.bsky.social and @markmcgurl.bsky.social)

So grateful for this thoughtful, generous review: "Those of us who care about what books can do should consider what these contributors have to tell us."

…er, Soi disant Proust club, Faute de mieux Proust club, ceci n’est pas Proust club,

I’d be all for getting the band back together in summer but humbly submit that chats about longer segments might suffice.

I have a Proust-enabler colleague who was pep talking me thru Guermantes nadir, and there’s a *very* long party right after where we stopped, but after that it got pretty can’t-put-down.

The Captive is super short, and weird, then The Fugitive has at least 1 head-spinning plot twist (trying to minimize spoilers) I was profoundly unprepared for.

Truly awful, there is emphatically nobody at all to root for .

Delightfully, thru Fugitive, he has very direct answers to every question we have asked as a group : place names, Jewishness/queerness, the nature of the leitmotif, in-world status of Swann in Love, etc etc etc

Same here! Honestly, Guermantes was such a slog, and the conversation about Mat’s chapter and S&G opening such a highlight, and then speeding up has felt like the right way. I’m hoping for an MLA bar Time Fully Regained reunion one day,

Yes, that was fantastic, as is that whole plot line—Charlus really takes center stage, love that for him!

@karlsteel.bsky.social @glavey.bsky.social @profneilh.bsky.social Hey Proust hive, dying to know if any of y’all have forged ahead… It’s gotten progressively less book-group-able as it repeats motifs and gives on-the-nose answers to all our questions, but just finished the Fugitive & it was 👀👀👀?!

Now that I've 1) as an exhausted VAP, passed out while doing last-minute reading for class, arriving late and unprepared, and, 2), today, had a chalkboard's sharp edge *rip my pants during class*

I shudder to think how any future teaching nightmares might need to raise the stakes.

I’ve done it twice in a contemporary lit and digital media course (e-flux version), and it recently blew an PhD student’s mind (the NOVEL version). (That course had an AI unit too I’ve been meaning to digest and post about, which drones fed into discussions about, too.)

Taught your Drone Aesthetics essay last semester, it still absolutely rips, even if I now have to explain to students that “aesthetics” does not actually mean “an appealing vibe.”

PSA This is a fantastic resource, I enjoyed teaching a few selections from the New Negro Anthology last semester with it, students really connected with the less-often-taught Georgia Douglas Johnson poems.

The Number Ones: Mariah Carey's "Fantasy" In The Number Ones, I’m reviewing every single #1 single in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, starting with the chart’s beginning, in 1958, and working my way up into the present. *** In their tim...

Just discovered the ft. ODB remix of Mariah's "Fantasy," a true marvel. Mariah's isolated ad libs are a 10/10 pop song, ODB skimps on fully enunciating the "house" in "in da house" love this for both of them.

A pal pointed me to Tom Breihan's # 1's column, it's great: stereogum.com/2181534/the-...

I agree! Though I interpreted this as a "salt bae" gesture, adding just the right touch of nuance.
