Nine books arranged on a wooden table. Titles are: jitterbug, who will you save, futures edge, descendant machine, stars and bones, light chaser, embers of war, fleet of knives, light of impossible stars.
Flat lay time! Here are nine of my most recent books. I think they look amazing together. How many have you read?

Photo of the empty shop unit from 2009 showing the outside and entrance. It looks very grey and very empty.
Photo of the open bookshop full of books, cards and colour. There's people browsing books and lots of light
Photo of outside of the shop. The street is sunny and colourful with people walking past. Someone has just left the bookshop. You can see things in the windows and a glimpse of the Gutter sign.
16 years ago today we opened the doors to Dublin's newest bookshop. That @gutterbookshop.bsky.social continues to thrive today brings me so much joy. We created something that brought people together & celebrated books & reading. I feel like I added something good to the world & I'm so proud of that.

There is a silver bullet for childhood happiness: a love of reading
Bestselling childrenβs author Katherine Rundell says to reverse the reading crisis we must let young people rediscover the enjoyment of books β whatever they may be
It's sunday so I am finally reading the links I opened during the week. Or possibly last week. Anyway, this one is worth your time (should be a free link, it was for me at least). Katherine Rundell on reading for pleasure. #UKKidLit #KidLitUK www.thetimes.com/uk/get-brita...

As a child
By Vidyan Ravinthiran
because my voice was not the right voice
and could not be understood I stood
before the mirrorβββa murky glassen word
this mouth canβt shape right to this dayβββand was made
to watch my teeth and lips being imprecise.
So this is why I come across a Southron
and not from Yorkshire, or Sri Lankan; but Iβll complain
no more about this clarified and potent tongue
for when the moustached gent at US Customs
asked me in his hapless twang
are you a terrorist, my borrowed posh it sure
abashed that poor colonial; and it was of course
what my child-face perceived or could not in the glass
which made of me a scrutineer of sound,
a listener for and into every glitch
in the aathma, the script, the avid void of English.
Congratulations to Vidyan Ravinthiran, who has jointly won (with Karen Solie) the Forward Prize for Best Collection with AvidyΔ (Bloodaxe). Its brilliant final poem, "as a child", describes how an early speech impediment led him to be "a scrutineer of sound" with a love of "the avid void of English"

Our booksellers aren't psychic, but one of them DOES play the Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack on loop often enough that there is a non-zero chance of Korean tourists walking into the shop just as the Saja Boys start serenading customers.

Kazuo Ishiguro Reflects on Never Let Me Go, 20 Years Later
While Iβd been busy writing my fourth and fifth novels, my study had mysteriously transformed itself around me into a kind of miniature indoor jungle. Everywhere were dusty mountains of scribbled-oβ¦
"But if someone pleads 'Never let me go,' theyβre not only asking for the impossible; they must know, even as they make the request, that theyβre asking for something beyond anyoneβs gift." (via @literaryhub.bsky.socialβ¬)
