Update about Pedro Lorenzo ConcepciΓ³n's hunger strike:
After 17(!!) days without food, Pedro ended his strike in exchange for not being deported. Ultimately, independent media kept attention on the story and forced his demands to be heard, even where major news outlets were silent.

Absolutely devastating. A young man who will live his entire life in the shadow of unspeakable cruelty.
All the same, we rejoice for even the smallest of victories. Merwil is back in Venezuela. We are grateful that he survived his ordeal in CECOT, and we hope for him to find comfort and healing.

Sidewalk chalk saying "Love wins"
Sidewalk chalk saying "Love Everyone"
Sidewalk chalk saying "The USA was built by immigrants". It is underneath a banner saying "Andry Hernandez Romero. The USA sent him to a concentration camp."
Sidewalk chalk saying "Stop ICE". It is underneath a banner saying "Only traitors obey tyrants."
Happy Friday!
Another great banner drop in Falls Church today! We tried something new and put out some chalk messages as a longer lasting way to spread motivation.
Looking for something to do in your own neighborhood? Consider chalking. Small acts of resistance go a long way. β€οΈ

"Blue triangles were sewn onto the concentration camp uniforms of migrants under the Nazis. We are taking that symbol of oppression and turning it into one of defiance."

A bumper sticker with a blue triangle and print saying "I stand with immigrants"
Thanks to @thedisappeared.bsky.social & Witness at the Border, we purchased a bulk supply of bumper stickers for our banner drops. Even some folks without cars have expressed interest in putting the stickers on laptops, water bottles, etc.

Afghan, age unclear
Sayed Naser Noori was detained when presenting himself for his immigration hearing. He previously served as an interpreter with the U.S. Army.
If deported to Afghanistan, he will likely be killed by the Taliban.
Sent to an ICE concentration camp.
After his brother was killed by the Taliban as retribution for service with the American forces, Sayed Naser Noori knew that he needed to flee his home country.
Using the CBP One program, he entered the U.S. legally in 2024. ICE is now seeking to fast-track his deportation.

Trump administration won't retrieve wrongfully deported migrant
In new court filings, the Trump administration says Jordin Melgar-Salmeron is allowed to return to the U.S., but it won't help him get here.
Jordin Melgar-Salmeron is an El Salvadoran who was sent to CECOT after sending him was barred by the court. The US admitted their *error*, defied orders to facilitate his release, said they could not find him and then did (in CECOT)

One of the (many, many) problems with the massive pressure to increase detentions is just the sheer logistics of it all. People are already getting lost in the system, and it'll only get worse.
The fight goes on.

While we wait with bated breath to hear the fates of these young men, we must remember that they were subjected to extrajudicial rendition. Regardless of the outcome of their stories, their very treatment remains antithetical to American values.

Please remember, though, that the men sent to CECOT did flee Venezuela (and in many cases, request asylum in the U.S.) for a reason. Conditions in their home country have largely not improved. Upon returning, they might be subject to further reprisals, discrimination, or even torture/imprisonment.

While reports are still being compiled, it appears that we do have movement on the CECOT front.
Many reputable news sources are reporting a prisoner exchange between the Salvadoran and Venezuelan governments. Among others, the exchange purportedly includes the Venezuelans imprisoned in CECOT.
