#islamicartweek2025 Working drawing from my lesson with the amazing Aslam Qureshi. The tessellated pattern is taken from the Al Hussein Mosque in Cairo. Delightfully intricate to draft.. I will post a photo when I’ve figured it out!! #islamicgeometry #islamicgeometricpatterns #islamicart

#islamicartweek2025 Fascinating lesson yesterday with wonderful artist Aziza Iqbal drafting a geometric motif from Masjid-I-Sayyad Mosque, Isfahan. Plenty of mistakes, but I’ve found that I enjoy the process and geometry more than the result, which surprised me. Can’t wait for more #islamicgeometry

This paper has been 10 years in the making! Thanks to my co-author Peter Marshall (radiocarbon dating guru), to Historic England who funded the dates, to @dorsetmuseum.bsky.social who hold the archive, and to AHRC for funding my PhD research (where this project originated).

The paper discusses Flagstones in the context of other proto-henges such as Stonehenge and Llandygai, explores small ringforms with cremation burials, and presents a new date on nearby Alington Avenue long enclosure. Also ideas about where this new large circular monument came from - poss. Ireland?

Hooray! Our paper detailing new dates for Flagstones enclosure in Dorset has been published in @antiquityj.bsky.social today. It shows that Flagstones is middle Neolithic, built and used for burial around 3200 BC, earlier than expected. Open access: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Avebury holds a very special place in my heart. Growing up in Swindon, I would hop on the Marlborough bus from the town centre and go there whenever I could.

I quite like β€˜utterly gazebo’d’.
Gazebode? Gazeboed? Gazebowed?!?
Unsure how that would be spelled, they all look wrong! But it sounds so pleasing.

Ditto Poltergeist(s), the Exorcist, any of the Saw(s) etc etc. My visually-oriented brain holds on to violent/ gory imagery forever on repeat.
