They stopped reading at "he critiqued the Iraq War" because that was good enough for them
They very much did see his belligerence but assumed it would manifest as "he'll finally tell the entire world to fuck off and leave us alone forever!!"
Beyond that, it's also because Trump marketed himself as an isolationist who wanted to withdraw from the world, close all borders, and stick a "closed" sign on the window of America. This appeals to a lot of awful, dumb people, and to them war is the exact opposite of this. Ergo, betrayal.
I think it stemmed from a notion that both parties were completely controlled by The Blob, and therefore any "outsider" to politics like Trump was would be inherently more anti war than any politician who rose through the ranks the normal way (Blob corruption).
It is astonishing how pervasive this sentiment has been over the last 10 years. I heard a college professor say during Trump 1 that for as evil/racist/misogynistic as Trump was (none of which the professor disputed, he ostensibly hated the man), he was also "one of the least pro war presidents ever"
I think Joe Rogan himself would literally just tell you "there was no war with Iran during the last term he had so I thought the trend would continue"
