Seen a few folks astonished by my lack of support for ChatGPT and similar. Because AI, right?
Yeah, no. What we have right now is glorified autocorrect. Glorified autocorrect that takes the energy of an entire city to do what it does, plus half of Lake Erie to cool down while it's doing it.
ADHD requires meds that are hard to get if you have ADHD.
Making them a controlled substance (no delivery, no one can help pick them up, only one month at a time) is debilitating.
Addiction is bad, yes, but under-medicating people has consequences too. (Ex increased traffic accidents)
Eddie Redmayne is the Jackal we all deserve, but I want to see his hyper-competence, dammitall, not his family life
... And don't even get me started on how badly-written Lashana Lynch's cop character is
Clarion West provides writers all over the world with instruction and community, always with a focus on decolonisation. I'm exceedingly proud of the work we do and if you can support us in any way, I would be grateful

City of Leavenworth, Washington Are you one of the thousand pedestrians walking through the Village of Lights’ LED magic this holiday season? Due to heavy traffic flows anticipated on Hwy 2, expect wait times of up to 4 minutes at the signalized crosswalks. What can you do with your 4 minutes? 1. Look up the menu for the restaurant you’re walking to; 2. Sing “Christmas All Over Again” by Tom Petty; or 3. Finish that perfect speech to your ex you started in the shower this morning. As you stroll through our Bavarian Village, please remember to use proper crosswalk etiquette and obey all pedestrian signals. Let’s keep everyone safe this holiday season! Thank you for your 4 minutes of patience and cooperation at the crosswalks. (post credit: WSDOT) Photo of a crosswalk sign that says "Crosswalk wait times up to 4 minutes"
Expecting people to wait 4 minutes to cross the street is delusional.
Just a reminder to all the new folks that Neil Gaiman has been credibly accused of sexual assault by five different women, and is almost certainly working behind the scenes with his PR firm to bury the story.
Don’t let him. And don’t follow him. More here:
Hello new faces and old!
I'm Shane and I write fantasy fic that pivots around magic, monsters, and messy characters.
I have flash fiction forthcoming from Shacklebound Books and I'm currently working on my debut novel!
Would you please share to help me find like-minded friends?
5. I believe people can write outside our identities, but if your character is marginalized in ways you aren't:
a. Do you think you're being noble? If yes, stop
b. Do you understand specifics? E.g. not just Indian but Gujarati? If no, stop
c. Do you have CLOSE friends from this group? If no, stop

We've run 80,000 simulations and in every one of them cars ruin everything.
Amazing question and thoroughly brilliant answer. Do yourselves a favour and read the whole thing!
So, time for not-election stuff: It's Native American Heritage Month and I'll be looking to share and reskeet any and all Indigenous creators I can find.
I'd also like fellow artists and writers to share their Native OC's! Let's get this goin'!

Dr. Gebru tried to warn us, but too many people who should know better want to talk about whether LLMs can attain sentience (no) and become skynet (no) instead of talking about the real dangers that are not just possible but already here.
a post from “derek guy” @dieworkwear The best way to pwn Elon Musk for all his election shenanigans is to build walkable neighborhoods so no one needs a car.
YES
Toot from Helen Czerski: The evidence that cars don’t work as primary mass transport in cities is everywhere: traffic jams, air pollution, accident rates, the shocking fraction of city space taken up by parking spaces, safety barriers/bollards etc. This 100 year experiment should be declared over, and we should put proper effort into the systems that HAVE been shown to work and scale: walking, cycling, e-cargo bikes, cheap/accessible/reliable public transport. This “argument” about LTNs is just lazy delay. #LTN #cities
Whatever I have to say about how cars ruin cities, @helenczerski.bsky.social has said more elegantly on Mastodon.
A Walk in the Clouds 👀
I'm so outing myself as a die-hard romcom fan
I'm researching an article for Writer Beware on editing service Edioak and their new House of Pages promo venture, for which they seem to be soliciting a lot of authors. If they contacted you, I'd be interested in seeing what they sent. My email is beware@sfwa.org . Thanks!!
I know it from being queer and trans, not Black, but... it sucks when the only / most common time your work is noticed is when someone else pisses people off enough that they are virtuously looking for a deserving target of their attention for the next 5 mins.
We could, you know, build more public transport.
Savage Mind, an indie Philippine bookstore, was completely decimated by 15 feet of water from Typhoon Kristine. They need help rebuilding!
In the link are 18 romance stories written by Filipino authors, all for a minimum of $6. All proceeds go to Savage Mind. They're at $473 as of today.
This feels like a good time to share a thread of stories by African authors featured at @podcastle.org since Shingai and I took the helm. Read on for five powerful, vibrant, wonderful pieces of fantasy fiction. 🧵
To be a good man you have to, kind of paradoxically, reject patriarchal society's conception of a man.
I'd love to say this is easier than it is, but it just isn't.
Coming to the heart of this thread now: I cannot but help feel that the reason that these strategies proved so successful in this case was because they offered to people a very easy way of assuaging their guilt, without requiring them to make the effort of actually redistributing power.
We don't want support withdrawn from BIPOC writers, particularly other writers from the same demographic as retribution and punishment.
Please uplift and support writers from African countries. There are many writers living there who are doing incredible work!
That's all I got.
how about instead of robotaxis rich people were taxed more and that money went into improving public transportation
“The harms imposed by the Rivian are three times the harms imposed by the Prius, in terms of air pollution and death from accidents, but we are subsidizing the Rivian and not the Prius.”
