Thirty years ago, there was a mass shooting at a school in Dunblane, Scotland. A subsequent campaign led to a total ban on private ownership of hand guns. There have been no mass shootings in any British school since Dunblane.

Very good point! The European Car of the Year Award 2025 went to this small and affordable electric car, the Renault 5. Sadly, there are no plans to sell it in the US.
Agreed! In the UK gas is currently £1.39 per liter, which works out at $6.75 per US gallon. Most of the extra cost is tax. The higher price also encourages people to buy fuel-efficient cars instead of gas-guzzlers.
To restore democracy and create a fairer, safer, greener world, we need massive taxes on the ultra-rich. As in the 1940s. People get confused about this. The main purpose of such taxes is *not* to raise revenue. The point is to stop the few dominating the many. It's an essential democratic measure.

The students who transferred had been told the UTC was a form of alternative provision for students like them. Hardly any of the students had expressed prior interest in the UTC’s technical specialism. It was off-rolling in its bluntest form.
An example: a mainstream school had 223 year 9 students in 2016. The following year, it had 173 students in year 10. The difference is due to a UTC opening nearby in 2017. Almost all students who transferred were achieving below expectations & most had poor attendance and behaviour records.
If students were performing well at the end of Key Stage 3, their existing schools discouraged them from moving to a UTC. Conversely, students making less progress than expected, or who had a record of poor behaviour or attendance, were strongly encouraged to go to UTCs.
Off-rolling by mainstream schools had a big, negative impact on University Technical Colleges. Baker Dearing trustees were told, 'There are numerous documented examples of students and their parents being “directed” to UTCs by schools and local councils as an alternative to permanent exclusion'.
