These events always feel like the most fun summer camp where you get to see all your people at once (not to mention good music). Thank you for sharing the video!

Deeply, yes. I hate all of it.

JJT and have have a routine where 1) I’m resistant to something, 2) somehow I get into the thing and become obsessed, and 3) I drive him bananas with it. Ex: Grateful Dead and Fleetwood Mac. That DID NOT happen with this fucking band.

The Lagniappe Sessions :: Trummors/Prairiewolf - Aquarium Drunkard A meeting of the minds. Last year saw Trummors lit out for the territories touring some esoteric, off-the-beaten path venues in Colorado and New Mexico with Prairiewolf. This installment of the Lagnia...

Teamed up with Prairiewolf to cover George Strait & Joni for our recent Lagniappe Session at @aquariumdrunkard.com

β€˜I wish I could push ChatGPT off a cliff’: professors scramble to save critical thinking in an age of AI As AI has upended the way students learn, academics worry about the future of the humanities - and society at large

Well the email that asked me to contribute to this article on AI in the classroom went to my spam folder, but it's nice to read about others out there--including several of you--fighting this monster which, as @tressiemcphd.bsky.social has stressed, is not an inevitable part of our future.

Oscars picks with Paul Gagliardi: Red carpet stories and what they really mean | Marquette Today While the Oscars might only be one night a year, English professor Dr. Paul Gagliardi discusses how Hollywood stays relevant and shapes some of the most important topics in day-to-day life.

I got interviewed by my university about my Oscars class, the cultural meaning of the Academy Awards, and I offered some picks too (I made these like a month ago)

Ugh, that’s what these are. I literally never ever use my office phone. I haven’t picked it up once in the six months I’ve been here.

Sure, raises are nice, but have you ever gotten a new office desk phone? πŸ™„

I'm compiling a spreadsheet. Next steps are to locate land where we can build; then James the smooth talker will get busy recruiting folks. We've got a shortlist already πŸ˜€

This is happening to far too many people. I'm getting ready for the indie-rock refuge commune. James and I both are!

Most people in my world know Brent as an extraordinary and accomplished music writer (which he is), but then they find out the man is also a brilliant and accomplished historian. At the top of his game in both! πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

Thanks, Jim. Sometimes I think we should've just moved to Milwaukee and gotten jobs at Trader Joe's lol. Then we could at least hang out with Cash, you, and Beth, and bother Ken at Acme.

I always bristle at the phrase, especially since I have more teaching experience than a lot of tenured faculty I work with, including some full professors.

One hundred percent yes!

09.03.2026 13:33 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Honestly, Matt, I think people just leave before going up. This is not a place people want to be unless they're from here. I'm not sure what accounts for the gap between "junior" faculty (I hate that word because I'm pushing 50) and tenured faculty, who are almost all significantly older.

Thanks so much, Ben. I always appreciate your consistent affirmations.

I really don't know. I mean I'm sure they get terminal contracts or are booted immediately. I think the public system here offers even less protection than the former private school where I taught. Faculty aren't treated very well here.

You’re unlikely to meet a bigger fan of Leonard Cohen’s music than me, but I bet he regretted writing β€œthen he locked himself in a library shelf” pretty immediately.
