Finally they part ways and Luffy gets his iconic hat that sets him on the journey to become a great pirate to complete his promise to give it back to Shanks
Instead I think thereβs a way to sacrifice part of yourself for the deal. Shankβs gave his arm, Lucky Roux probably gives a portion of his body which is why heβs always eating to have sacrificial fat for this.
It also explains why someone with advanced haki could lose an arm so easily
(More spoilers)
Knowing Shanks had a pact with Imu at this point is likely why he βletβ his arm get bit off but I also believe he used the same teleportation that Lucky Roux used. This wasnβt the abyss as we know it since thereβs no emblem and Shanks pact wouldnβt give access.
Then we get to one of the largest storytelling moments in the series, Shanks losing his arm
But let me break down, something prior to this scene we see a standoff with mountain bandits where we see Lucky Roux basically teleport behind a guy and shoot him.
βGuns are for action not threatsβ
I think everyone agrees Shanks was there looking for Rogerβs kid
But I believe he assumed Luffy and his free willed nature was that boy and when the devilfruit exerted its will and chose Luffy it confirmed things in his mind.
Tritoma died from love sickness after he left and boom Luffy is the villages problem.
There was likely a lag between this happening and when Garp could come back so Luffy hadnβt been put under Dadanβs watch.
My theory (again spoilers) is his mother was Tritoma the previous Snake empress of Amazon Lilly.
Dragon brought her back to Goa after having a kid but then left because he wanted them to be safe from his shadow of leading the Revolutionary Army.
Episode 4
Shanks intro is interesting knowing lore spoilers but a big question that we still donβt have answered is why is Luffy in Foosha village and whose care is he under?
At this stage we assume Garp has custody but thereβs still a chunk of lore missing on how that transaction happened
Episode 3
Luffy and Zoro formalizes their alliance and take down their first tyrant.
Koby is inspired by Luffy and asks to join the marines to pursue his dream.
The marines saluting pirates that saved the day is a reoccurring theme that I enjoy
Luffy beats up Helmepo (we all enjoyed this)
And we see Luffyβs devil fruit can rebound bullets
Episode 2
We meet Zoro and heβs being crucified but by his choice to save others only to find out Helmepo had no intention of keeping his end of the deal
We are introduced to our first tyrant, Captain Morgan, and it took all of 2 episodes to show that the government is the bad guys
Koby is arguably the first person Luffy frees on his journey as he takes him from his captors and gets him to face his fear and have courage to pursue his dream of becoming a marine.
He gave him freedom to be who he wanted
I also love how Luffyβs first appearance into the show is him exclaiming heβs going to be king of the pirates.
Now we meat Koby who is an inverse of Luffy. He is a coward, shy, has a dream but is scared to purse it, and is being held captive as a chore boy for Alvida.
It also is a reference to Umibozu the Japanese Yokai of the sea which the only way to survive is to get into a bottomless ladle or barrel and escape while its confused
The first episode starts off with Luffy in a barrel to survive a whirlpool
This whirlpool could literally be from the man with the burnscar and could be a significant foreshadowing event that maybe the man with the burn mark wants to stop him
Iβve decided I will use this account to document my journey through a rewatch of #onepiece and share my thoughts and theories along the way
This will obviously contain spoilers
