A couple of small but very useful additions to my local government candidate database. You can now see which candidates are running ads on Facebook & Instagram, and click through to see their ad library. #nzpol

I do not understand how people can see these violent, cruel human rights violations happening on U.S. soil every single day and just accept that this is fine and nothing needs to change.

This is back to the harassment Siouxsie Wiles faced during covid and no-one really looking out for her. The real life consequences for her were completely unfair and uncalled for.

This. So much this. I wish we still saw it as a way to explore learning, a topic and learning about ourselves too.

eSafety boss wants YouTube included in the social media ban. But AI raises even more concerns for kids AI is just one of the emerging threats online that won’t be tackled by the social media ban.

"eSafety boss wants YouTube included in the social media ban. But AI raises even more concerns for kids"

Agree with the eSafety Commissioner. And also perplexed that the online platforms are not seeing this as an opportunity to innovate.

Here’s why some people suffer from motion sickness – and which remedies actually work If our body is moving, but our brain can’t work out why, this creates some internal confusion.

Seasickness is not fun, but like driving makes me feel less motion sick, helming also helped me feel less queasy.

I like where your fishhooks have gone, however, the legal system is not timely enough to deal with this. And therein lies the problem with the HDCA.

As a Kiwi (recently) I’m loving your learning. It’s recent history. I’m learning about history here. It’s funny how people (Europeans) chuckle at your knowledge, but growing up in the UK I didn’t learn about NZ history beyond Cook and no-one really chuckles about that. I find the world curious.

A thought about generative AI: the main result of its use is mediocrity. Mediocre writing. Mediocre art. Mediocre arguments. If that’s what you aspire to, by all means go for it.

Bollards and β€˜superblocks’: how Europe’s cities are turning on the car In Paris, Barcelona and Brussels, authorities are adopting varied approaches to the task of reducing congestion and pollution

β€œA startling statistic emerged in Paris last month: during the morning and evening rush hours, on representative main thoroughfares crisscrossing the French capital, there are now more bicycles than cars – almost half as many again, in fact.”

And it has kept growing from there.

A mixed use apartment building, or a co-ownership scheme like on High St would be great. But not a classic poorly built block with no orientation to the sun and also the wind that whistles through the valley.

Tracking apps might make us feel safe, but blurring the line between care and control can be dangerous | Samantha Floreani Apps like Life360 and Find My Friends are changing the landscape of what’s considered to be an expression of love – and not necessarily for the better

my latest for the guardian on love in a time of surveillance - inspired by some horrifying findings from recent eSafety Commissioner research (e.g. nearly 1 in 5 young people believe it’s okay to track their partner whenever they want)
