Screenshot saying: For neurodiverse individuals or people with mental health disabilities, the disability tax can look like buying first-class tickets on trains or airplanes if they are easily overstimulated, renting one-bedroom apartments so they won’t have to deal with roommates, and accessing therapy. For others, it can mean opting to take rideshare or a taxi over public transit that might be inaccessible and doesn’t offer door-to-door service. I often pay to check in my luggage on flights because I’m unable to put my carry-on luggage in the overhead compartment on my own.

Good analysis of the "disability tax", how much more disabled people pay to have similar standards of living as non-disabled people. It isn't just physical things. I have to pay more to commute, not first class, because I can't use the cheaper route for example.

A cat laying in a bowl with legs protruding. The bowl is on a tiled floor in front of a window which is letting sunlight through and onto the cat.

Sometimes I have days where I just have to come home & look at cute cat pictures & videos

In this self-obsessed era of pouting 'selfies' I heartily approve of this.

Comparison harms mental health.

Even comparing your present self to your past self, not just to other people.

Things are different today & that’s ok.

Can't sleep tonight.
It's currently 00:27 & I've been in bed for 1 ½ hours.
Not even tired now.

One of my kiddos received his autism diagnosis last year. Last night, at dinner, he told me that he sees numbers as colours & that's the coolest thing I've ever heard.
Synesthesia rocks!

Wow, I would have loved to carry on when my nan tried to teach me at a similar age but I thought it was boring then 😢

Just a few months.
So far I've made a scarf (standard first knit 🤣) & a jumper. I'd like to think she'd be proud.

😊 How long have you been knitting?

18.08.2023 08:12 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0

I started knitting at Christmas, I think, to feel closer to my nan who passed almost 3 years ago (though I've only just realised it's for this reason).

Anyway, today I've done the first twist on a cabled jumper I'm making for my son who requested one. Whoop!

Getting all the feels right now.

So happy to have Only Murders In The Building back! Probably more excited than would be deemed acceptable.

I just love a good rain storm. There's something about watching it through a window & hearing it hitting the glass that touches my soul.

I'm in the UK.
They've just been out, 40 hours after it happened. They've been to see the guy next-door & have now left.
I guess they'll call later with an update 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm at that age where I kinda think about watching the next episode of a series on Netflix but it's 10pm so I'd kinda rather go to bed.
