I was told that in a village in South Kivu, children paid 500 FCFA ($0.17) to fighters (Wazalendo) to shoot in the air, just for fun, depending on the amount paid. This may seem trivial, almost humorous... but it is actually a sign of a wounded society, where violence has become a daily spectacle🥲
In Uvira, near Lake Tanganyika in the eastern part of the DR Congo, a video shows an armed young man chasing a hippopotamus through the marshes. It is a shocking scene that speaks volumes: here, weapons not only destroy human lives, they also attack our environment and our natural heritage.
