I can’t help but think this does little to aid those of us on the sensible side of politics. When a venerable institution like the BBC, long accused of leaning left, distorts events of such seriousness, it corrodes public trust and lends weight to every charge of bias.
Cromwell’s Civil War tore the kingdom apart, only to end with a weary return to order and monarchy. We’re far too fond of grumbling over pints and posting satire to start polishing muskets again.
Describing asylum hotels as “luxury” is a distortion that serves only to inflame resentment. The system is clearly unsustainable, yet decency demands that we address it with honesty, not rhetoric. Efficiency and compassion need not be opposites, both are marks of a civilised nation.

The American Constitution, written by the forefathers of British immigrants (Yes immigrants) was designed to restrain government power. It declares, “Congress shall make no law… abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.” That freedom includes the right to record & hold officials accountable.
Regrettable though the closure may be, the safety of our royals must come first. It has been enshrined in law and custom for centuries. Until the day we become a republic, this is, unfortunately, the price we pay for monarchy protection against terrorists and hostile actors alike. 👑 🤷♂️

Indeed, one quite agrees. The emoluments breaches alone should have prompted far greater consequence. Yet it seems the Constitution, once a sacred boundary for the Americans, has become for some a matter of convenience, cited when useful, ignored when not. A most troubling precedent.
A weak response, one fears. Putin once evaded term limits by becoming prime minister, showing how easily power can outwit paper laws. Without firm resolve to defend the Constitution, such words risk sounding hollow.
It is, I fear, a perilous course indeed. When a nation declares itself beyond the bounds of international law, it ceases to be a guardian of order and becomes a law unto itself. History offers grim reminders of where such arrogance leads.
Quite right to condemn any action taken without due process, such things erode the very principles of justice. Yet to declare those involved wholly innocent without evidence is, one suspects, something of an overreach. The truth, as ever, lies somewhere between outrage and restraint.
I cannot help but reflect that when such rhetoric was voiced in the days of the BNP, it was rightly condemned and its proponents cast as misguided. Yet now, lamentably, the same sentiments appear to have crept into the mainstream, spoken with a confidence that should trouble any civilised society.
A grim but realistic observation. Should such a collapse occur, one dreads what may be uncovered. The scars of Mariupol already run deep, and history has shown that the full truth of war’s cruelty often only emerges when the smoke clears.

We all rely on the media in some form. The difference is whether you cross-check sources or just cling to the ones that confirm your bias. None of us were in Amsterdam that night, so unless you’re citing first-hand evidence, we’re all reading someone’s version of events.
I was making the point you’d have to be very naive to think these people weren’t targeted because they were Israeli or Jewish. That doesn’t justify violence from anyone, but pretending identity played no part is just ignoring the obvious.
I posted this 8 months ago and it’s aged far too well. Every new “temporary” restriction, every silenced critic, every shift of power justified by fear… it’s all happening in real time. The slow slide into authoritarianism never announces itself, it just asks for your quiet compliance.
That’s disgusting, no right minded person would excuse that if true.
So by that logic, English, Italian, and Serbian fans should all be banned from travelling too? Every country has its idiots you deal with them individually, you don’t punish an entire fanbase. It’s politically motivated and you know it.

There was a call for a “Jew hunt” across Amsterdam, that’s hate. I’m no fan of Zionism or Netanyahu, but this can’t be excused. Racism, Islamophobia, and antisemitism are all the same poison and must be called out, whatever the politics.
I think you’re referring to what happened in Amsterdam? Dutch police uncovered a WhatsApp group with over 900 people (none of them football fans) coordinating attacks on Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters. That’s why this feels more political and hate-driven than just hooliganism.
It’s scary to think how many of the rich and powerful have used the same tactics over the years. Influence, connections, and hush money to bury their own sick fantasies and silence the people they’ve hurt.
