The two new ferries will be smaller and cost more than the original ferries and be delivered three years later. The port upgrades still need to be signed off and ratepayers both sides are stumping up for the govt fucking around? And that's for less than the iRex plan. Years later. Costing more.

...... basically the NZ government cancelled a project and replaced it with a proposed smaller shittier one. Only to realise they actually need to do most of the original project to reach their stupid ass minimum viability when the original project was gold standard century future proofing.

AAAAAGH they're still going to have to replace the entire Picton Portside because it was munted and that's what iRex was doing, they're still going to have to build temporary buildings while they do that and that's what iRex was doing, they're going to need mor shit at Wellington and that's what iRe

Ways the govt could quickly help New Zealanders reduce fuel usage, but probably won’t 🤷, for reasons:

⚠️ Lower speed limits
🚌 Encourage PT (eg bring back half-priced fares)
🚲 Encourage active modes (eg pop-up bike paths)
🛤️ Move freight from road to rail (eg ramp up KiwiRail)
🏡 Support work-from-home
