omi was originally a zandalari who defected around the time of MoP and had to fight his parents on the isle of thunder

now he's a drakkari who was orphaned as a kid and never felt a connection to the loa, which led to his exile and subsequent survivor's guilt when zul'drak got wiped out

i simply cannot make a WoW character without them having suffered a little bit in their backstory
