Good rule of thumb for any fandom space is that at least a fifth of anyone you’re taking to probably hasn’t actually seen the thing they’re in the fandom for. I have no idea why but it happens more frequently than you think.

But to answer your question yes absolutely people love making sweeping claims about fantasy while barely engaging with the genre outside of one or two works. Lots of people read one Brandon Sanderson novel and conclude that’s what all fantasy should be. Others dont even bother and just aestheticpost

I’m not like, against privately discussing things or like you did, making a pretty good thread of your own opinions. But I also feel like the internet is a place that spreads volatility easily and people should be more mindful of making sure everyone knows what we’re all talking about.

Fair enough. I think the problem I have is how much it muddles the water. I’ve already seen the article being discussed as “anti torture porn” and I feel like this game of telephone happens every time until at least one person gets hurt from it.

My two cents on the matter is that for a year I made Berserker. Which I wrote trying to not be completely derivative to WARHOUND (to mixed results, Kallie is simply really good at invading my ideas ahead of time)

It was the first novel length story I’ve ever written to completion, and it shows.
