An issue of Amazing Spider-Man #601 is held up b someone off-panel. Its cover, drawn by J. Scott Campbell, was controversial on release. It depicts: Mary Jane Watson sat on her sofa, looking over her shoulder out of her apartment window where we can see Spider-Man swinging away. She is sat on one of her heels, her other knee bent as if cross-legged. She is holding a steaming mug of a hot drink in her lap with both hands, and her arms are pinned to her sides tightly. She is arching her back and thrusting her chest out, wearing torn flared jeans and a white top with a heart-shaped Spider-Man symbol in the centre.

Underneath this comic, the real Mary Jane, wearing the same outfit but with grey sweatpants instead of jeans, is slouching eating tortilla chips out of the bag with a pot of dip resting on her abdomen.

Mary Jane: "HA! You don't ACTUALLY think I sit THAT way... do you?!"

Panel from Marvel Comics #1000 (2019), also drawn by J. Scott Campbell

Mary Jane sits watching the television intently, her elbows on her knees and hands to her face as she's bathed in the blue light of the screen. In the background we see Peter putting on the final parts of his Spider-Man costume and his web-shooters before leaving left of frame.

Panel from Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #16 (2012)

Captain America lies on his front in rubble, clutching his shield. Miles lies next to him on his back, holding his head. It is raining heavily and in the background there are men firing guns their direction, and a helicarrier overhead.

Miles: This isn't my fault, right?
Cap: Is it?
Miles: Uh... Uh, I don't think so.
Cap: Then I'm going to say no.

Panel from Marvel Team-Up #27 (1974)

The Hulk grabs The Chameleon, with his silver age white mask, by the collar of his trench coat. He frowns and Chameleon looks scared.

Hulk: Rick is GONE -- And NO-FACE is back! No-Face made Rick GO AWAY!
Chameleon: Let GO of me, you fool!

The Hulk grabs him by the shoulders and shakes him. We can see from his legs that he's wearing Spider-Man's costume underneath his coat.

Hulk: Where is RICK, No-Face? TELL Hulk -- Where is RICK?
Cham: Hulk -- S-S-S-STOP!

Close-up on Chameleon's shaking, fearful mask-face.
"Y-Y-You're Sh-sh-shaking m-m-me t-t-to D-D-DEATH!"
