Item Description: Budget Compliance for Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office - offered by Commissioner Conley Resolution: BE IT RESOLVED, that the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is not authorized to exceed the 2026 board authorized expenditure authority for their department or staffing complement, as measured by Full-Time Equivalents, without prior County Board approval; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in 2026 the County Administrator is directed to provide the County Board with monthly reports outlining monthly expenditures, staffing levels and total year-to-date expenditures compared to year-to-date budget; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in 2026, if the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office expenditures exceed their year-to-date budget, the County Administrator and Chief Human Resources Officer are directed to not authorize external posting for positions or hire new employees in the Sheriff’s Office, except for Detention Deputies serving directly within the Adult Detention Center, Telecommunicator positions, and other positions critical for the HCSO to meet its statutory mandates; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in 2026, if the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office expenditures exceed their year-to-date budget, the County Administrator is directed to provide the County Board with monthly hiring updates that identify the positions the HCSO has been authorized to hire.

hennepin county sheriff's office racked up $1.3 million in overtime in jan 2026. commissioner angela conley says they could overspend budget by $15 million+ this year if they don't change course. today county board unanimously passed a BAR conley introduced that sheriff cannot exceed their budget!

Uptown was cool in the 90s because young people could afford to start their adult lives there. Once you price out the artsy young adults, you need a new plan

Guess What Moderate Democratic Voters Aren’t Anymore? Moderate. Two new polls suggest that moderate Democrats, too, want higher taxes on the rich and some measure of economic populism. Moderate isn’t what it was in 1992.

The policy being debated, which I think the mayor is likely to veto, is temporarily adding an extra 30 days notice (60 total) on evictions thru the summer, after which it will revert to existing 30. Seems like an especially small gesture considering the magnitude of what people have been through.

The shitty part of it all is that before modern LLMs, we had amazing technology that provided accommodations for so many people.

I think of things like: customized words/phrase prediction, autocorrect, suggestions, voice to text and vice versa, etc.

And now NOTHING is not enmeshed with "a.i."
