I think there’s an idea that eventually people, especially people we want to believe the best of, will see reason when things get bad enough. But some people really never will. It sucks, and it’s hard to square with.
Sometimes I think about the fact that there were people who lived and died believing Hitler was an okay guy. People who voted for him thinking it was a better choice for Germany, or would help the economy, normal people who believed lies. And then had a heart attack maybe, or a wreck, and never saw.
