2026 you threw me a curve ball I wasn't expecting. My husband getting seriously ill and hospitalized. I'm hoping that he gets better, we shall see what tomorrow brings.

Happy New Year! May this year bring many new opportunities!!!
Abstract submissions are due January 6th, 2026 at 11:59 pm US central time!
If you do field work, mission observations, experimental work, or modeling of hydrothermal systems. LPSC has a special session that you can submit that is focusing on integrating geologic, chemical, and biological perspectives to explore hydrothermal processes on Earth, Mars, and icy moons.
They're one of most beautiful minerals on Earth, in my biased opinion;) Funnily enough I had my mineralogy lab from when I took the class (in my mineralogy thin section book)!!:)
Covered Friday's Mineralogy lab for my buddy! Today's lab was the Metamorphic Minerals! Students have to identify hand samples based on the mineral's properties AND also a section on thin sections (with some having hand samples) to get use to optical properties and how they look like in general!
I got featured today through the WI Space Grant! I'm honored that I was and that I'm passionate about the work I do alongside my advisor Dr Lindsay McHenry! spacegrant.carthage.edu/live/blogs/1...
Had a good talk and discussion in Spanish ;) about my project to the Environmental Seminar class at UNACAR:) Estuve muy agradecida por ser invitada y tambien por la discusion, muy buenas preguntas! :D My passion and curiosity in my project is the motor that's driving me! Ad Astra!
βͺAm wondering what is new since LPSC!β¬
Just now, NASA press conference on paper released today: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-StZ...
They give us a lot of clues about the environment and it is up to us to tease out that information, always asking what are you and how did you form? www.mineralcup.org/2025/vote
Every September there's a tournament of which mineral will reign supreme! A total of 32 minerals are featured in this battle of the minerals! I have come to love and appreciate minerals as the years go byπ
Uploaded my Wisconsin Space Conference 2025 presentation to their Google drive for this Friday! Bringing backups just in case;)!
Check out my friend's paper! Really neat use of silica scaffolds for lab-grown chimneys! pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...

Looks like USRA/LPI has the intent to host and organize next year's 57th LPSC (www.hou.usra.edu/meetings/lps...), given that NASA will not pursue a partnership with them (go.nasa.gov/LPSS24RFI). Hopefully it all goes well, this is really an amazing conference to the planetary community
Have done a detailed spreadsheet of Lassen field work game plan! ;);););) Now to look at materials to purchase....;) #fieldgeologist #astrobiology #analogs

The Presidents Budget Request for NASA is out. Itβs a bloodbath
Canceled are DAVINCI, VERITAS, Juno, OSIRIS-APEX, US participation in ExoMars and EnVisionβ¦
Huge cut to R&A. No funding to begin development of the Uranus Orbiter.
If youβve ever cared about NASA, time to contact congress.
The fact that the U.S. is turning inward and potentially set to decimate the science from its own space program while China is offering up its recently returned lunar samples for researchers around the world to analyze speaks volumes as to how the tides of science are going to shift.
Finally, this is just a request. Congress appropriates funds, not the President. Regardless of everything that has been going on. Regardless of who your Congress people are, contact them and demand they #SaveNASA (and NSF and NIH etc etc etc)
BREAKING: The president's budget request just hit Congress, which could usher in a dark age for NASA space science.
Congress has the final say, but you can help shape the outcome by adding your name to our global petition.
This is just the start of our fight.

Table showing FY26 budget numbers for NOAA from the Trump Administration.
Trump's Budget is out. For NOAA, it's exactly what the previous passback document showed.
Trump administration eliminations NOAA's Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research in its ongoing fight against science and reality.

This is pure madness! This is just outrageous! How are we suppose to thrive in science, contribute to the scientific community and continue to make an impact in missions, etc.
Going away present?

Announcing you are cutting STEM education programs by including a photo of kids learning from said programs.
Atmospheric sputtering on Mars based on analyzed data from NASA's MAVEN probe. This may imply that this process may have been there for a long time!

Good first day for the NASA Decadal Astrobiology Research and Exploration Strategy RFI Findings Workshop. Gave my input when necessary. Pretty interesting listening in on debate.
