A bit too unrelentingly grim for me to happily watch right now. Nice shots of Swedish mountains though, apart from the bit where a child is thrown off one.

Solange β Cranes In The Sky 05-10-2016 - 11 POINTS
At the end of 2016, V and T were in China, I was living in Ely with M and my father-in-law. Brexit and Trump had happened. This song really sums up the moment, capturing that formless anxiety & sadness.

They seemed to make it work somehow, for a while.
Yeah I think an exception can be made for groups who are making each-other miserable, but great if they can go on making music in whatever new configuration suits them instead of having to quit music.
It's like when people object to a group changing their sound - you can still just listen to their previous album, nobody's stopping you.
Slightly more controversial opinion: I prefer hearing new material to the songs they've been playing for 50 years and are completely sick of. I do also understand that most of the audience are there to hear the hits and it won't go well if they don't play them, of course.
If that music isn't for me, I won't listen to it, and certainly won't feel obligated to have any sort of opinion about it.
None of them. If they can make a living making music then I'm happy for them.
I used to use DuckDuckGo, but found it to be just not great as a search engine - having a look it does seem to be better than before, however it does seem to have integrated AI. So still on the fence there.

#3 - Intolerance, DW Griffith, 1916
Huge budget and spectacle, some impressive cinematography and a great performance by Constance Talmadge don't redeem this ridiculous folly of a film with an empty moral core. DWG one of those guys who can't be told he's wrong without making an epic about it.

Neiked Ft. Dyo β Sexual 26-08-2016
V had to return to China for spousal visa (thanks Theresa May!) so a year of separation & reunification. This reminds me of working in CAE in Girton (RIP), it was easily the best thing on Radio 1 that winter.

I cannot imagine watching this for the first time as an adult.

The pet shop had deer legs, so I bought one for Wukong. Apologies to deer lovers.
Forget Adolescence, they should be getting everyone to watch Sorry We Missed You.
A shot of Vera Karalli as a ghost in 'After Death', a 1915 film by Yevgeni Bauer.
#2 - After Death, Yevgeni Bauer, 1915
* Too goth even for goths, essentially an advert for suicide
* So, so beautiful though, the apparitions and that tracking shot at the party = wonderful
* Male lead & director dead by 1920
* Vera Karalli was present at Rasputin's murder. Then lived until 1972.

Ngaiire β Diggin' 26-02-2016
Machine-like, tactile, skeletal percussion, Ngaiire's warm, powerful voice, all building up and up, then when the release finally comes it's so simple. A masterpiece, released three days before we moved to the UK.

Title screen from Le voyage dans la lune, Georges Méliès, 1902
#1 - Le voyage dans la lune, Georges Méliès, 1902
Hard to judge by later film standards as Méliès doesn't really fit in the lineage or the grammar of film we're familiar with. Overall it's just a series of theatrical tableaux, but what tableaux they are!
Still from Man With A Movie Camera, 1929
A few years ago I compiled three lists of best films and started watching, in chronological order. Posted about them at the other place for a short while. Encouraging myself to keep on at it by posting them here! Let's go.
Looks like I'm going to be listening to plenty of music from Ghana over the next few months. (please feel free to suggest)
If your personal reaction to a work and your technical understanding of how "good' it is do not tally, it's the second thing you should question (and maybe just discard), not the first thing.
The tv-tropes version of critical thought which focuses narrowly on production technique and assumes personal reaction is something shallow and worthless.
+the majority of responses had non-aesthetic reasons
When I first returned to the UK ten years ago, I was running this summer camp where most of the social activities staff were from Soham and was organising DBS certificates for them, a system in place due to the actions of the one-time caretaker at their school.
Crackdowns on peaceful protest
Support for Conservative benefit cuts

As Labour keeps moving right. The question is: How low do they want to go?
