In February, we sent Starbucks some reasonable solutions toward finishing our union contracts. We're eagerly awaiting a response to these proposals.

In the meantime, we participated in work stoppages this week to make sure leadership hears us! ✊

Let's land this contract, Starbucks!

Apparently VA lawmakers think most higher ed faculty are tenured.

Not true.

Here’s GMUs stats:
1238 adjuncts
718 tenured
571 term (limited contracts)
192 tenure-track

The vast majority have few protections.

We need Collective Bargaining NOW! @donscott757.bsky.social @ssurovell.bsky.social

The majority of faculty on campus work on semester contracts w/no job security. Even those with tenure can be denied due process. Don’t cut us out of collective bargaining. The higher ed lobbyist agenda is NOT pro-worker! @donscott757.bsky.social @senlouiselucas.bluesky.bot @ssurovell.bsky.social

Shame on the NIH for stripping fellows of collective bargaining rights!

This is <exactly> why I never want to hear from James Carville ever again about the "faculty lounge." It feeds the far right authoritarian lies & the Herrenvolk democracy nonsense. No Democrat (or democrat) should use that language when discussing professors or universities ever again. Full stop.

Censorship is running rampant at Texas A&M, but PEN America won’t let academic freedom go down without a fight. We recently led a delegation of authors, including Gloria Browne-Marshall, to campus to urge the university to restore its commitment to open inquiry.

University workers are reaching a breaking point re collective bargaining. Virginia must take steps to reverse years of anti-union laws. Without a strong and democratic voice, the decisions made by administrators re pay, workload, + academic freedom fall short of creating a fair workplace.@aaup.org

The problem is that blue states are fully committed to “return on investment” analysis and are fully committed to undergrad business degrees and whatever the latest tech trend is. There is no theory of holistic education supported by democratic leadership.

Hey, #Toyota, #Ford, #GM, et al, Tony Loquercio of Bob Loquercio Auto Group has some odious views. People are good at voting with their wallets these days.

He endorses the murder of citizens in their streets by the Gestapo.

This just pissed me off even more than the re-handcuffing

The notion that these motherfuckers were the ones showing grace, that the women should be appreciative and speak well of the agents, that substandard treatment is conditioned on the women's portraying then as benevolent

Fuckin disgusting

And what are they learning? Experts on the formation of internal security services in authoritarian regimes point to a sense of impunity as a warning sign. Regime officials abuse their power when they know they will be protected, and even praised, for doing so.

Over the course of weeks and months, we have seen images of DHS officials abusing American citizens and immigrants alike, including killing them. What we do not hear is regime officials calling for credible investigations into such abuses, or even expressing any concerns. Renee Good’s killer was announced innocent, and both Good and her wife was instead the subject of an investigation, a perversion of justice so obvious that an FBI agent and half-dozen career Department of Justice prosecutors assigned to Minnesota resigned.

What we are watching is a paramilitary force learning that they can kill with impunity, that the regime will smear the victim and defend them. Unless politicians and the legal system exerts accountability, it will not stop. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/past-the-b...

At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.

It’s not enough to say Abolish ICE. It’s not enough to vote no on ICE funding. It’s not enough to confront Kristi Noem or Greg Bovino with Stern Words.

If you are a leader, what are you doing to protect your community? How are you using your power, privilege, and position to confront this threat?

Our community deserves someone willing to stand up and deliver impactful leadership. And yet Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez, along with 6 other Democrats in the House, just voted through a funding bill that will give ICE billions of dollars with minimal guardrails.
