Estimating the accuracy of smartphone app-based removal estimates against actual wood-harvesting data from clear cuttings iForest - Biogeosciences and Forestry, vol. 17, pp. 140-147 (2024)

In an earlier study, smarphone app Trestima provided best-case RMSE of 50-73% for conifer sawlog volumes when compared to operational data, indicating that the above-mentioned geodata approach is potentially more accurate. iforest.sisef.org/abstract/?id...

Integration of operational harvester measurements with forest databases and other sources of big geodata can provide substantially improved estimates of sawlog recoveries. The RMSEs obtained for conifer sawlogs were 41-60%. See doi.org/10.1016/j.tf...

Yep, LAStools is commercial. For me it is mostly just ground point classification, and both work well enough.

LAStools and R (lidR). Both have their uses.
