In the supporting information we also derive from our equation some interesting models for density-dependence, social effects, and community ecology. #philbio #evobio #philscience
We got published in Ecology&Evolution! We propose an equation from which we derive the fundamental equations of population ecology and evolutionary biology (the Price equation). #evobio #philbio onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...
Glad that you're enjoying it ☺️
Remember. This is today 😊
This talk is based on our recent manuscript Foundations of Ecological and Evolutionary Change arxiv.org/abs/2409.10766
Join us tomorrow Friday at 10 am (room BLB7) for our talk "Darwin's Dream: Unifying Ecological and Evolutionary Change" #ISHPSSB2025
Looking forward to reading it in detail. We published an article that might be useful doi.org/10.1111/brv....
Cambridge Elements in Ecological Psychology
We've published a Cambridge Elements in Ecological Psychology! 🥳
@segundo-ortin.bsky.social and I have tried to provide a short, but all-encompassing introduction. We hope it's useful both for getting familiar with the field & for teaching. It's free for 14 days! doi.org/10.1017/9781...
My Cambridge Element is out now and free to download until January 2!
The Price equation provides a comprehensive representation of evolutionary processes. However, there is no consensus on the explanatory power of the equation. In this article we aim to clarify its place within modern evolutionary theory: link.springer.com/article/10.1...
This has been a collaborative effort with Lorenzo Baravalle @lorebar80.bsky.social, Ariel Roffé, and Santiago Ginnobili @santiginno.bsky.social

🎉 New: The Value of Price
We explore the role of the Price equation in evolutionary biology. We argue that, like Galilean kinematics, it is a phenomenological framework that unifies diverse fields by formalizing a shared explanandum.

What's the role of the Price equation within evolutionary theory? Is it a tautology? In our new article we argue that its role is analogous to that of Galilean kinematics in classical mechanics. #evolution #Priceequation #philsci #philbio link.springer.com/article/10.1...
Judas: "Don't worry, this is on me"
I'd say Darwin's + some recipes (Lewontin's, Endler's...). And then use the Price equation to derive their specific equations: Robertson's theorem, Fisher's theorem, breeder's equation, etc. Thus you can see the scope and limitations of each recipe (inheritance mechanisms, other forces, etc.).
My Element on "BIological Organization" is finally out!
And it is open access!

This week's ep features Kirsten Walsh, philosophy lecturer at @uniofexeter.bsky.social, on the topic of 'Rethinking Newton through his Archive'
Kirsten takes us into newly digitised documents & how they can better illuminate Newton's research interests & everyday practices

Indeed! We may try "one equation to bind them all",😀
Thanks a lot, Nicolas. Unfortunately, your suggested title was already taken 😅 link.springer.com/article/10.1...
One equation to rule them all ? A unifying formal equation for eco-evolutionary change ✨
