The SM7B requires a lot of power and smaller USB powered interfaces (I use the Scarlett Solo) can't really provide the necessary gain, so the Cloudlifter uses the electricity from the phantom power to boost the mic's signal (like a pre-amp) while also keeping it sounding clear.

Researching information for a local mural, I learned about Indiana's electric interurban passenger railway system in the early 1900s. Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania were all connected by this system. Its too bad we don't have anything like this anymore.
