Handling the stress and pressure of service is one thing and absolutely requires a significant resilience. Inflicting physical violence in particular on your staff isnt about being tough it's just straight up abuse and any chef that still does that to their staff is not worthy of the title
I have been a chef for 20 years now and have worked in restaurant with a culture like this. The one thing I always told myself was that any kitchen i ran would not be this way. It does not make cooks strong. It breaks people and drives talent out of the industry

The Trump/Zelenskyy fiasco reminds me that the thing I hate most about Trump and MAGA is that they're a movement of bullies and abusers, every single one of them.
