And a more dramatic classic view of An Teallach in all it's snowy monochromatic splendour today. #westerross #scotland

Enjoying Wester Ross. Gairloch beach yesterday
A great pleasure. Nice to see the paper out there...
A wonderful, friendly, productive and dynamic network 100 percent recommended. ππ
Conference room at Apex Dundee. Crop Production in Northern Britain meeting
The 2026 Crop Production in Northern Britain www.cpnb.org meeting in full flow Dundee. Two days of science on combination crops the potatoes. Many great presentations from @hutton.ac.uk
Photo shows Chief Plant Health Officer for Scotland David Kenyon
Wonderful to see Sophie Willan (Alma's not normal) and Michael Palin (some stuff...!) again tooπ
Yes indeed. Just watched episode three gain and laughed even more this time around. Between that and the, also cleverly written and beautifully acted, Dinosaur it has been a treat of BBC commissioned gems.
Great plan and breakfast. It was such an event that made me ensure earplugs were as essential as the toothbrush on trips away.
Getting close to 19 Feb abstract deadline. Expect this to a great meeting, as ever.
My memorable first encounter. Excitedly dropped pack and crouched to take photographs. Kea made beeline for rucksack and within seconds pecked through it! Me, 'WTF' protecting new Berghaus took priority. Stunning nonetheless.
Wonderfully still on Udlamain. Was back at car before looming clouds from west. Best of luck with your hip keepbup those stretches.
View south from summit of Sgairneach Mhor. Snow so deep that only top inch of trig point was visible! Crispy crunchy walking
A great day on Drumochter summits too. Curing the vitamin D deficiency! Trig point almost fully buried.
Thanks to Adam Clarke @farmersweeklyuk.bsky.social for reporting @hutton.ac.uk FAB first sampling of EU43 clone of #Phytophthora infestans in UK.

Well, we at least scored one try leading to slightest consolation and 'could have been worse' feeling! Clutching at any straws here!!

Thanks to many for flagging this great study from @mfseidl.bsky.social group. Love the way they use pangenome analysis to get a grip on the messy evolution of effectors in #Peronospora effusa. Would it work with almost 3x larger #Phytophthora infestans genome? Hope so.
Snowdrops on the North Esk at Edzell plus a raging torrent that is hopefully not snow melt!
I have often wondered what role this pathogen has in the UK so look forward to hearing about the studies. Marine Phytophthora impacts are, I suspect, underappreciated.
All support for British Potato growers gratefully received. Love a crispy, salty skinned baked spud with smoked mackerel creamy filling. Affordable and local.
Boo hoo! Really appreciate your feed even if my optimistic side was hoping it would be cold enough to be holding the snow. Cairngorm was plenty cold enough on Weds.
Screen grab from Phytopathology stating that paper titled "Preserving the Biologically Coherent Generic Concept of Phytophthora, "Plant Destroyer"." was the most read article of 2025
And another update to thank the readership of Phytopathology for making this the most-read article of 2025. #Phytophthora
At least it's all fixed and running now. Had a fabulous day today and others enjoyed bluebird days last week. #Scotlandskiing
Have not seen book tokens for a while but 100% better than an Amazon voucher. Have fun on your wild trip π
Blue sky and snowy mountains from near summit if Creag Leacach
A grand idea. I had one on Monday too. Glenshee looking equally awesome even if the proximity to A93 to Braemar makes it feel less remote
Happy Christmas. A locally problematic pathogen on the increase? Happy to say the holly and ivy in my garden is healthy.
Looks a useful approach for analysis of more than one barcode PLUS an announcement of the expanded mtDNA rps10 gene database for oomycetes. Thanks @grunwald.bsky.social and team
Certificate from APS Phytopathology journal to state that our paper "A Reassessment of the Etiology of Late Blight Epidemics in the Indian Plains Reveals that Asymptomatic Seed Potatoes Are the Principal Source of Disease Spread" was the Editors Pick for Dec 2025
Chuffed that APS Editor selected this as the Editors Pick for December 2025. Happy Christmas
Sounds an interesting exploration of #Phytophthora threats to Seagrass. Hope a good student applies and makes headway.
Wow
