Bill proposes PFAS help for Maineβs private well owners
The legislation would pay to test private wells near a known source of forever chemical pollution, such as landfills or firefighting foam spill sites.
βAll the wells anywhere near the old Navy base should undergo certified testing paid for by the state of Maine β¦ Ordinary citizens like myself cannot afford to sue the federal government for redress.β

Dead livestock, lost farms and PFAS: Why pressure is mounting to rein in toxic sludge
Americaβs farmland may be facing a growing contamination crisis: one that farmers, regulators and lawmakers now say can no longer be ignored.
βI think I finally feel this moment in time where it's not just left or right, it's not just environmentalists, it's people of all stripes who are saying, 'What's going on here? And how do we remove more of these chemicals?β said Pingree. @pingree.house.gov

Rep. Dan Ankeles (via Facebook):
We had a productive first day of session in Augusta today, and I also received some good news about a couple of my bills.
First, we were able to get most of the new bills for the year sent to all of the appropriate policy committees. Then we recalled a handful of bills from the governorβs desk that were in limbo, which is actually a good thing because it signals that the legislative branch and the executive branch were able to reach a compromise that will get the bill signed into law. After session we had a quick press conference on the Democratic side to talk about a number of items designed to lower different components of the cost of living, from electricity to housing to food assistance. The word of the year for me continues to be βtriageβ as we try to address the fallout from legislation and executive orders at the federal level.
In terms of my own bills, we sent my brand new private well assistance legislation to the committee I serve on: Environment and Natural Resources. And then just a little while ago, Governor Mills announced that LD 222, which authorizes the takeback and removal of toxic firefighting foam throughout the state of Maine, will be allowed to go into law this Friday. I am over the moon, but I know that we still have to push to fund the effort using future legislation. Iβve been around long enough to know that anything that costs money requires patience and usually multiple attempts.
Comments from Rep. Dan Ankeles, the sponsor of LD 222 and two other "spill" bills
