I'm not sure I've yet seen a note with the King's head on
I use a Euro for the supermarket trolley. It's useless to my kids, so they leave it in my purse!
I have a small, painful spot in my hairline
I've had a few in the 30yrs since, at conference, I dived, drunk, into <2m of water onto a rock
My palms sweat thinking about it, knowing what I got away with
Soon, my pimple will calve a single grain of carribean sand. A reminder of my luck that night
The only saving grace is that Dorset doesn't have the wall/hedge combo, so you can hurl yourself onto the verge
First thing I had to teach my kids π₯Ί
Tho, upside, humour to be had watching SUV drivers not wanting to 'off-road' to pass you on a tight lane
I have always also cycled
My mates and I would cycle miles to the beach along high-hedged lanes with never a problem
Doing the same now is impossible
Big angry cars with big angry drivers
I have always lived rurally. Cornwall, Devon and now Dorset
I have never needed an SUV
Current car is a Suzuki Swift which manages the potholes and floods just fine
And, should I, God forbid, ever hit a pedestrian/cyclist, they are much more likely to go over the top rather than under the wheels

A scrupulously honest young pig who saw me drop my wallet, and is now putting off everything it had planned for the day to rush through this wildflower meadow and kindly return it to me.
THREAD.
Some excellent pigs I have met on walks in the British countryside.
You will find the all-important captions to each photo in the alt text.
IT IS TIME
The man looked up from his beach chair.
"Really?" He said. "I've only just retired."
Death held up a timer. A single grain was about to fall. And then... It didn't.
CURIOUS
Vetinari shrugged.
"I've only just discovered drinks with little umbrellas. I'll let it fall in a bit" 1/17
Terry Pratchett in a blue jacket and Akubra hat holding a young owl for release.
Eleven years since you crossed the black sands. I wish I could say that the world is better than you left it (although it will always be better for having had you in it) but at least there is a new Young Sam to help carry on the Pratchett name and ethos. Love you always β€οΈ
A google maps view of the area around the Strait of Hormuz, with crude markup showing the 4 steps to successfully clearing the strait: 1. Build up speed 2. Hit Trampoline 3. Cool backflip 4. Nail the landing The boat is illustrated using a clip art yacht, and the trampoline is also just kind of floating there.
wait. wait. everyone hold on. i've solved it

That's the sort of argument to make Farage glitch
The BBC are really going out of their way to not call these The Peter Files.
Couldn't give two hoots.
Tho I am thoroughly enjoying the clever mock-ups people are posting
Looks like he's wearing his Dad's shoes
Waiting for my son and listening to a couple of undergrads talking money.
One of them buys everything on credit, pays the balance monthly and collects Avios points π
The other can't fathom that the available balance isn't actual moneyπ«£
OK
I'm saying it
What do they teach kids these days
π§ New episode out π§
To understand the Trump administration, you need to understand Stephen Miller. @dorianlynskey.bsky.social and @iandunt.bsky.social are here to accompany you on this treacherous journey.

Man, this was dark.
Fascinating, TY
But also
He's like a 10yo who was given the bad side to research in a debate, got stuck in a worm-hole, and didn't have the emotional maturity to give compassionate weight to the arguments
If it wasn't so evil and far-reaching, it would be pathetic
I just spent the afternoon volunteering at my boys' old primary.
When the kids come in from lunch, they only need telling once, then it's indoor voices all afternoon
When do people lose that, I wonder?
I can hear my husband on a call from outside the house π£
So thank you @sturdyalex.bsky.social
I never know where you're going to take us and it's always quite the ride!

I gave up drinking about 8 years ago, for no particular reason.
Also quite old
Have recently been curious about how much I could reasonably drink now, but can't be arsed feeling groggy
I need to refill my oil tank. Haven't started to ring round yet but, anecdotally, I have friends who can't even get a quote because prices are going up so fast. Even if they can swallow the rapid price hikes.
Have turned the heating off. Need sunshine so I can use solar for hot water π
Where I am in Dorset, the post-covid boom has collapsed, and houses over Β£700k take much longer to sell, usually with multiple reductions, relists, etc.
My house, Β£280k 20yrs ago, with inflation applied, is now worth exactly the same.
No longer appreciating assets in most places now
A friend who works in property sales has had an increase in multi-generational buying. Pooling their resources for a big house where olds can care for grandkids and then mids can care for olds
I see the pros, but risky if mids need geographical flex for work
Most schools have funds to help families who can't fund these subjects.
I gulped when my y8 opted for photography, but he can borrow the equipment for the first Yr. I'm sure there'll be a fee when he loses or breaks the camera π¬
Haha, just re-read your post and saw that's EXACTLY what you just said!
You can almost 'double-count' that transaction.
If I don't do pd work and look after my aged parent, I don't contribute to GDP. But if I do paid work and someone else is paid to care, we both contribute.
Of course, there are also other issues of equity and pulling ppl from their own economies
