💡With HosTEome, we will chart TE–host relationships across the eukaryotic tree of life, follow their coevolution, and ask how cellular context and specific molecular partnerships shape whether a TE invasion can take hold and persist, or instead is contained and eventually goes extinct.
🧬TEs are some of the most successful genetic invaders, reshaping chromosomes, rewiring gene regulation and sometimes contributing to adaptation and disease. A central question is when a genome becomes a “welcoming” environment for these elements, and how that changes across the tree of life.

In our latest @biorxiv-genomic.bsky.social preprint, we describe our approach to use PacBio HiFi reads to detect somatic TE transposition -- good enough to detect rare events that are present in only single cells. Led by Andrea Movilli.
