Follow along with an open science project on antimicrobial peptide discovery! I'm sharing all data and research notes publicly (doi.org/10.55277/Res...). Our pre-registration, funded through @researchhubf.bsky.social, builds on a recent paper published in their new Journal. 🧪

Peer review is meant to prevent scientific misconduct. But it has its own problems The peer review process is central to science – but it can be easily manipulated. Improving it is vital to uphold research integrity.

"Peer review is the worst method of safeguarding scientific integrity, except for all those other methods that have been tried from time to time." As Churchill might have said if he'd been a scientist rather than a politician.

I never knew there was a specific name for a triple spiral! The authors should have used this instead of 'tumbleweed'.

I was curious about the speed of the motor so I asked AI to do some calculations. The step length is about 15 nm and the authors suggest a speed of 10-20 nm is achievable. If you normalize that speed to "body length" it's about 2X faster than a human's walking speed. Not bad.

Here's a very cool paper from @biorxiv-biophys.bsky.social I shared on ResearchHub this week. The authors designed a three-legged motor protein that can walk down DNA in either direction. www.researchhub.com/paper/930685... 🧪 @researchhubf.bsky.social
