Iโm already mostly on Mac these days actually - canโt really avoid having a Windows machine as well though, given my work
This was on by default on my home edition installation by the way - definitely worth checking
*Bunch of AI stories about files being deleted without asking*
Windows 11: hold my beer
Yโall, the Castlevania: Awakening In The Moonlight musical by Takarazuka Revue is available legally on VOD with subtitles starting today until the end of March, this is a great adaptation and the women in this show are so good, PLUS this is a rare experiment globally
Please see it if youโre curious
File systems should be more interactive - when Iโm copying multiple files I should be able to click on one repeatedly to make it copy faster
Sometimes referred to as proof of concept work I think ๐ค
I've reposted many posts made by folks who were recently laid off from Heart Machine, but here is a thread that highlights them all.
I am also including folks who were previously laid off & are still looking for work. I will be linking their Bsky posts, as well as LinkedIn.
Please, share this. ๐ค
this got recommended to me by YouTube, and it deserves to have one billion views, so I'm showing it to you in the hopes that you will also watch it and share it, because it is so lovely

Absolute best edit of a Northernlion video I've ever seen hey @katie.bzky.team check this out
Hey everyone. Iโll be honest, Iโve run out of rope on this โbeing a writerโ business, to the point where my site either takes off, now, or I start applying for whatever local shop/cleaning jobs are available. This isnโt a โthreatโ, just an honest statement of where I am. Sorry.

If you have a โbetween levelsโ or similar point where they should all be freed thatโs a good place to dump the data. Initially to figure out these were the source of the leak I did just compare profiler snapshots - so itโs not exactly high tech!
In my projects itโs textures, materials, meshes, and render textures that I need to keep track of - but there may be other types I donโt use. My helper class keeps a list of each and I can tell it to dump a list of which are still in use
You can use the profiler to tell you in raw numbers if you are leaking meshes, materials, etc by comparing snapshots - but I donโt think you can drill down to find out which ones, thus my own class to track runtime assets. This is from years back though, it might have improved
That deals with materials, textures, meshes, etc. I suppose you could be โleakingโ objects in C# if you have a life cycle problem (creating into a pool but not releasing for example) but that would be quite specific to your project
Actual leaks or just garbage collection? Thereโs a limited set of things that can leak (assets mostly), so I found that tracking runtime allocated objects was fairly straightforward, I just add them to a list on creation and based on what was leaking figured it out relatively quickly
I canโt remember the whole story but Nuclear Blaze was made for the devโs kid/s first and then released store.steampowered.com/app/1662480/...
screenshot of a linked in post: So Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori is doing quite well on Kickstarter (257% funded right now!) and we're working hard to maintain that momentum and keep reaching new potential players. Do I have any press contacts who would be interested in reporting on this success story? About how we took a big gamble in picking a historical, mostly untouched setting for our horse riding game (several months into pre-production for a more 'classic' horse game idea mind you) and in turn managed to make a whole new space for this """"niche"""" genre? About why the games industry's tendency to not take women's interests seriously is part of why horse games never get the budgets they deserve and how we want to change that? About how I've been annoying about horse accuracy on the internet for several years so now I get paid to give horse-specific consulting on various projects? Now's a really good time to send me interview questions and podcast invitations ๐
so I posted this on LinkedIn already but figure I might as well share it here too: Do I have any press contacts interested in my general Horse Game Shenanigansโข who would be interested in covering the Khiimori kickstarter success? Or just the horse game phenomenon in general ๐

I've learned (and I am still learning) how to run a game studio for the last seven years doing both creative and biz. Here's a list of guidelines that work for us and might be useful for others that were lessons I've incorporated with our experience and guidance from others. ๐งต
Happy to give it a go
A work in progress screen capture of a UFO in isometric view. The roof is cut away so you can see rooms inside. Thereโs an airlock, a central corridor access, a storage or work room to the right, a lab to the left, and a cockpit with an array of monitors ahead. Overall the UFO is flat and mostly round, but somewhat triangular and pointed towards the front. There are two glowing engines at the back corners. The access door is at the back between the engines. The outer surface is metallic and shiny. The interior is mostly grey for now.
Been working on a UFO interior today, kind of a set dressing approach - using stock assets and kit bashing. Itโs felt a lot like playing Happy Home Academy in Animal Crossing! Coming up with a little narrative for what and why things are there, and working within tight spatial constraints
maโam you are in the way
This is really shocking: and true. I discovered I'd just been upgraded without consent to an AI-enshittified package that was about ยฃ30 a year more expensive. Strongly recommend anyone who has an Office 365 follow the below advice to get rid of it
This goes even harder.

I should probably dig out some more details about it and repost them now weโre all off Twitter - thanks again for the prompt!
The fur shader worked particularly well in VR. I did a version that supports the Valve Index too, but I think if I went back to it now Iโd probably need to overhaul quite a bit to get it working on a current version of Unity (or some other engine)
Aw, thanks for saying so Damian! Iโd still like to make a version we could release at some point - we did some updates for A MAZE and Fantastic Arcade after the version you saw, thereโs a video here: m.youtube.com/watch?v=oBBA...
