Text: I told myself if I was real good and real quiet and stayed very still, it'd be over quicker, but then I heard frogs croaking and the air sat heavier and it smelled like wet and mud and rot.
The swamp? I tried to ask Pa with a wrinkled brow.
I wasn't allowed out there. That was the witching place! That's what they always called it when they caught me coming in from my walks. Why had they brought me here?

You know what I love most about being a self-published author? That I can decide on a random Tuesday morning to announce I'm going to release a collection of completely new short horror stories in 4th quarter 2026 and no one can stop me!
Yeah.
That's pretty cool.

Bottom row: Bottling his ghosts by S.H. Cooper, Errant Roots by Sonora Taylor
Next month's horror book club is Pam Kowolski is a Monster! By Sarah Langan. So, I got some other books, including Bottling His Ghosts by @pippinacious.bsky.social and Errant Roots by @sonorataylor.bsky.social, at RDSPress while I was at it. Long live Women in Horror, all year, but this month, too.

Text: Hogs going to the slaughter made more humane sounds than I did, mewling and squealing as Pa and the preacher man carried me between them. Pa told Ma and Sissy to stay home. If anyone came asking, tell them I’d run off again and he and Beau were tracking me down. I begged them with eyes big enough to read in the dark not to put me in that truck.

I like the weeds growing in our yard. There's something about them that just speaks to me.

I'm finally attempting to bring my terracotta garden back to life. Planted some zinnia, canna lilies from seeds off my existing plant, and sunflowers (really hoping for at least one of these to bloom; our vet gave us the packet when we picked up our dog, Abby's, ashes). Fingers crossed!

"THE FACE OF PAIN is unlike anything I have ever read. It’s original, disturbing, disgustingly beautiful, and horribly upsetting. With that being said, it is impossible to put down once you crack the front cover." -- Dave Dreher, Gruesome Magazine
