A small Lasioglossum in the spiderwort, which is blooming now around central Texas.

Growing out of yellow-green moss and in front of blue-green lichen, a large purple spindle - a type of purple fungus that grows like smooth, slender fingers or tentacles - reaches out of the ground towards the forest canopy. Surrounded by other small purple spindles, the main subject is much taller and completes a full twist as it rises.

This large and twisty purple spindle caught my eye. I really like the light purple with the blue-green lichen behind it

American Crows are familiar over much of the continent: large, intelligent, all-black birds with hoarse, cawing voices. They are common sights in treetops, fields, and roadsides, and in habitats ranging from open woods and empty beaches to town centers. They usually feed on the ground and eat almost anything—typically earthworms, insects and other small animals, seeds, and fruit; also garbage, carrion, and chicks they rob from nests. Their flight style is unique, a patient, methodical flapping that is rarely broken up with glides.

Have been playing around with Gemini to see how/if it could improve on any of my images. For #M51 it did a good job, IMO, however, for the #Jupiter image, it essentially "hallucinated" high-resolution textures based, my original image and on its training data of Jupiter. 🔭

What are your thoughts?

The Orion Nebula is in the center of the frame, it has a bright white core from where I overexposed the data. The center is surrounded by rich magentas and violet clouds with deep, dark dust lanes extending from the center. The Running Man is present in this frame as well, sitting just above and to the right of the Orion Nebula, it shares the majority of the same colors, but they are more subtle and the magenta reds hide behind the much paler violet blues

I promise this is my last version upload of the Orion Nebula for the year (probably). I combined my 15 hours of narrowband and the 2 hours of broadband data into a single image. I spent a lot more time isolating the dust from the background.

The findings suggest that ravens use spatial memory and navigation to find food scattered over the landscape.
