The balance of the equities tips sharply in Plaintiffsβ favor. Plaintiffs seek to protect their sovereignty as well as their residentsβ health, welfare, and safety. Plaintiffs also seek to retain control over local law enforcement, education, and public safety. At bottom, Plaintiffs seek to protect fundamental principles of American federalism from Defendantsβ unprecedented intrusion. The public is in no way benefited from such unlawful or unconstitutional activity and there is substantial public interest in βAmericans trusting their own government to follow the rule of law.β ... On the other hand, the federal government faces no harm from an injunction. The federal government has enforced federal law in Minnesota for decades without the support of thousands of federal agents roving the streets and making illegal stops. Defendants may continue to enforce such laws even with Plaintiffsβ requested injunction in place.
A hearing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CT (10 a.m. ET) on the state of Minnesota's request to halt the ICE surge in the Twin Cities.
I'm covering the proceedings remotely.

Violence tied to ICE in Minnesota and the ongoing case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia here in Maryland are part of the same story: fear.
From Minneapolis to Hyattsville, federal enforcement is reshaping how safe our neighbors feel.

To be clear about what happened:
Alex Pretti was a Minnesota citizen and ICU nurse doing what thousands in MN are doing: observing and protesting against ICE.
He had a handheld camera. He saw a woman pushed down by ICE. He went to help. Six or more ICE goons came after him.
Iβm excited to announce the inaugural website post! Topics will focus on genealogy & geohistory, with related dives into records access & technology.

New #Substack up today on why #Hyattsville should do an accessibility audit. As someone whoβs lived with access challenges, I know how much this matters. A more inclusive city starts with understanding the barriers.

ICE is βnot something we can aid and abet,β Ferguson told me. The Senate is where the ban fell short last session.
