“We did old-fashioned shoe-leather-type stuff that I haven’t seen done in many a year,” Marilyn Thompson told MS NOW.
So proud of Marilyn, who is breaking huge stories from her home state’s local paper.

Grammarly's AI-fueled edits -- using my name - suggested making up sources and writing vague insinuations.
In my latest for @nytopinion.nytimes.com (gift link) I describe Grammarly's terrible edits in my name -- and call for a federal right of publicity.

A $6,000 grant from the NEH made my first book possible by funding three months of archival work I did in the UK.
One $16k NEH grant at a research library can change the life of a scholar forever while adding to our shared knowledge of history and culture. These depositions will drive me mad
For scale, 800,000 people would be the population of Seattle. That’s how many people are displaced.
Oh ffs you are too old and you do not get to choose your successor. So tired of this man.
Sorry I didn’t know you could say something as outrageous as “where are the student protests now” when you crushed and derided the students for protesting and fighting to prevent catastrophic, apocalyptic violence against civilians, because they knew what this would unleash. They were so brave.
$11.3 billion could cover any of the following for a full year:
-1.4 million people on Medicaid
-19 million kids getting free school lunches
-1.4 million people getting affordable housing
-1.1 million hungry seniors fed
-0.8 million children given free child care
Some folks treated me like a naive child for believing we had the money to cancel a portion of student loan debt

They really saw what was done in Gaza and thought "what if this was the whole world"
Haha this is why I frequently tell my kids, this is not a restaurant, I am not your waitress
NEW, from me: A secret chapter of Cold War history, told here for the first time. A deep cover Soviet Bloc spy in America at the end of the Cold War. The shocking moves by a European intel chief. And the incredible CI chess games by FBI and CIA counterspies.

Imagine the people we could feed and shelter, the children we could educate, the sick we could heal, and then ask yourself how anyone who thinks they are a Christian can support any war, really, let alone one started for no other reason than to satisfy the bloodlust whims of a decrepit madman
“In testing by CalMatters, they [the chatbots] often answered general questions correctly but struggled with more specific ones. East Los Angeles College’s bot couldn’t even correctly name its own president.”

We introduce AI resignation as a form of subjectivity that hollows out young people’s self-efficacy and, as an affective formation, sustains power in digital capitalism.

They don't *need* AI to make these decisions. But they *want* AI to make these decisions. Because the tech gives them plausible deniability--something to blame (other than themselves) when things go wrong.
Post See new posts Conversation Laura Rozen @lrozen · 2h From US admin official background briefing recording listening to, seriously question if US negotiators understood what Iranians were proposing. One official keeps saying acronym for “IAEA” wrong. They seem astonished Iran would not agree to the US supplying them nuclear fuel Laura Rozen @lrozen · 2h They took as suspicious proposals that Iran saw as concessionary. Laura Rozen @lrozen · 2h Explains why Oman FM tried to come to DC to explain what US negotiators may not have fully understood Laura Rozen @lrozen Am not saying what Iran proposed would have been enough, I dont know, but it seems US negotiators did not have the expert guidance to understand it correctly
On top of all the reporting that this war of aggression was planned well in advance, it seems that the reporting also indicates that the US political leadership are quite literally too stupid to understand basic diplomacy. I mean literally not smart enough.
"[T]he shock and awe of Day One has largely buried under rubble the pretense of a negotiation by Steve and Jared, a negotiation that was either so incompetent as to be worse than useless or — probably more likely — a negotiation that was so incompetent by design, to serve its paymasters."

New — I spoke to eight trans people in Kansas about the new state law that invalidated their driver’s licenses overnight, what’s it’s like to live there right now, plus details of two DMV emails exclusively obtained by The Handbasket that shed light on the law’s chaotic and cruel rollout:
This govt is too stupid to recognize what is happening. It genuinely believes its military dominance (rapidly eroding) will guarantee the survival of the empire in the absence of every other accoutrement of imperial hegemony. History suggests otherwise. But people die in the death throes of empire.
The US and Israel are bombing Iran. Anyone reporting it as “preventive” is engaging in propaganda, by definition. There is no interpretation of what’s happening as anything else than a crime.
You don’t have to like the Iranian regime to understand why this is bad.
Many millions in harms way. Millions more worried to death for them, far away.
