Seeley School Community Builds DIY Indoor Air Purifiers
SEELEY — In a community where air quality challenges are part of daily life, students, parents and school staff at Seeley Union School District took action this week by learning
Another community building CR boxes for schools!
“There’s not much that we can do about the air quality outside. But being able to create our own safe haven indoors is what we can do to actually have control and autonomy over our own health.”

Superflu - Irish medic calls for warning: 'It's time to grasp the nettle'
Dr Ciara Steele blasted health bosses for not speaking out about flu spreading through the air
As the early surge in the so called
“super flu” further stresses health care systems across the UK, a GP and co-founder of Clean Air Advocacy Ireland is calling for officials to better communicate that flu can be spread through the air.

I won't start ranting about it because I just get myself worked up, but quickly: I literally can not think of an investment of public funds that has a higher return than *cleaning the indoor air in schools*. It's so easy, so cheap, & has such HUGE payoff. Criminal that we basically don't do it.

What's the deal with indoor air quality?
From CO2 monitors to better building codes, Dr. Georgia Lagoudas outlines how to clean up the spaces where we spend 90% of our lives.
Today on Volts: for years, I've wanted to do a podcast on indoor air quality, and I finally found the perfect guest! Dr. Lagoudas & I discuss indoor air pollutants, the policies and technologies that can control them, and the growing need to frame indoor air quality as a basic human right.

China’s air quality policies have swiftly reduced pollution, improved life expectancy
Despite significant increases in particulate pollution (PM2.5) in many regions of the world, global pollution has declined since 2013. That decline is due entirely to China’s success in steeply…
Air-quality reforms in China have slashed concentrations of fine particulates by nearly half since 2013, preventing an estimated 2.2 million premature deaths annually. New analysis from the University of Chicago shows the average citizen now lives 2.9 years longer. buff.ly/EJeLqjd

canary pins on the lapel of a suit
The organizers of the UN event for healthy indoor air used a canary on all their materials and gave everyone canary pins.
Why? Canaries detect dangerous substances in the air of coal mines. We all need to be like canaries and warn about the dangers of unhealthy indoor air due to COVID and climate.

People signing the Global Pledge for Healthy Indoor Air at the UN
Yesterday, history happened at the UN: For the first time hundreds of orgs signed a global pledge declaring that healthy indoor air is a human right.
Healthy indoor air is a key tool for preventing pandemics, building climate resilience, and increasing health equity. We need it everywhere!

7 vaccines for Airborne Diseases :
Morbillivirus (Measles)
Mumps virus
Rubivirus rubellae
Bordetella pertussis (Whooping cough)
Corynebacterium diphtheriae
Streptococcus pneumoniae (Meningitis)
Haemophilus influenzae de type b (Meningitis)
In France, 7 of the 11 mandatory vaccines concern airborne diseases. They are so effective that we had forgotten that many viruses and bacteria are transmitted through the air we breathe.

These DIY air purifiers could make clean air more accessible during wildfires
Homemade air purifiers can filter air faster, making them an affordable alternative to more expensive commercial products.
Thanks to Amudalat Ajasa for this story about the significant benefits of CR Boxes for wildfire smoke particles and other indoor aerosol particles (including virus-laden respiratory aerosol particles, pollen, mold, particles from cooking, etc.).

Air filters in classrooms reduce sick days by more than 10 per cent
Putting air filters in classrooms seems to boost student attendance, which may be due to them reducing levels of air pollution, pollen, pathogens or all three

Using independent, third party data Safe Air Schools has also evidenced that commercial air filters can be provided per child, per year for less than the price of a pizza.

Instructions on how to fold the comic into eight segments. A small cut is then made in the centre of the longest cut, allowing the entire sheet of paper to be folded into an 8-page booklet, or 'zine.
Our new #CleanAir for Schools 'zine is ready! This pocket-sized comic is ready now as a FREE download on our website: linktr.ee/cleanairbcsc... Just print, fold, cut! (see attached instructions) And give them out to everyone! 😃 We are actively seeking translators, please DM!

The role of carbon dioxide in airborne disease transmission: a hidden key to safer indoor spaces
“Outdoor CO₂ levels are around 421ppm but in crowded or poorly ventilated spaces, indoor levels can easily exceed 800ppm. That’s the tipping point identified in the study, where the air starts allowing droplets to maintain a lower pH increasing the survival time of viruses”
